The COMET Program is pleased to announce the publication of the online lesson entitled "Meteorological Observations for Aviation."

This lesson will provide learners with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with several of the essential observational tools required to perform effectively in aviation-related roles. This lesson also serves as a refresher for DLAC training. The learner will gain information about different observational tools and their capabilities in aviation such as METARs, PIREPs, satellite imagery, Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor (MRMS) system, and the Offshore Precipitation Capacity. Learners can choose the topics in any order and have the ability to test their knowledge with a series of questions before learning more about the selected topic.

The intended audience for Meteorological Observations for Aviation is any operational forecaster new to the aviation program or needing a refresher of topics. The lesson covers a broad range of topics and those with interest in aviation weather may also find the lesson useful.

We welcome any comments or questions you may have regarding the content, instructional approach, or use of this lesson. Please e-mail your comments or questions to Adam Hirsch (ahirsch AT For technical support, please visit our Registration and Support FAQs.
