Getting ready for Jan 7, work Group Day

Hey!

Since I admitted that I'm a member of this group, Jenny asked me to represent on Jan 7.

Can we decide two things before then?

1) our mission
2) our first meeting (to brainstorm the shape of this effort, outline the (please god fairly informal) processes we agree to use, and maybe to get started.)

From what I gather, our mission is something like

"To establish Occupy Houston throughout the City by working in communities, connecting with community-based organizations and focusing on community-specific concerns."

Meeting: what about 7PM on Tues 10 or Thurs 12 at a meeting room in the Central Library? Who's good with what? There are 19 of us on the list. I wonder how many of us we can get at a meeting?

  I like the mission statement proposed.  As for meeting times, I would prefer Thursday 12th at 7pm but can do either day, depending on when the most people are free.  Hopefully with the passing of the holidays we can get more responses/commitments (I know I've been MIA from e-mail).

I can get to a Thursday meeting anytime (but I would like to make at
least 1 GA), but I'm not available on Tues.

We should also make sure that when the local groups become strong
enough, we're not cramping them. IMO, OYS should ideally grow into a
confederacy of independent neighborhood assemblies that frequently act
in solidarity with and lend support to each other, OH, and the larger
occupy movement without loosing track of their own local needs.

I think it might be better to wait for greater OH to sort out how
we're going to handle our relationship with our workgroups and
"associated groups" (like, say, freedmans house) before proposing the
tri-part structure.

There are two workgroups currently focused on people who can't make it
out to the park. The Off Campus workgroup is more directed, choosing
one campaign that lasts several weeks at a time, and is for people who
are more far flung in the greater houston area. A great group for
this group to talk to about starting local groups. :) The At-Large
group is for folks who can't dedicate any significant time to being at
the park, but are willing to help out with occasional random tasks.
