*Oguta Electricity Update 21st September 2024*

Ndibe Ani
Greetings.

As we can all testify, Oguta's electricity supply has been steadily improving despite the disruptions. *We have on some days recorded over 12 hours supply in a 24-hour period and maintaining a chart of our daily supply*

The Light-up Oguta (LUO) Committee has continued to hold meetings with EEDC top management on the various short, medium, and long-term interventions to achieve stable supply for our dear community.

In our meeting yesterday with EEDC top management, the minimum supply target of 12-14 hours supply, new meter installations, and billing/payment modalities for non metered customers were highlighted again.

The Light-up Oguta Committee has also engaged Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) executive and operational personnel to address the interface bottlenecks that have created supply disruptions in the network. Hopefully, this close collaboration between the key stakeholders will produce sustainable supply improvements.

Given the supply disruptions at the beginning of this year, the Committee considered it premature to call on consumers to pay for the power at the initial stage. Consequently, part of the funds contributed by our esteemed donors and interest on the funds were deployed to offset EEDC bills for the months of January to August 2024 at an average of 500k per month.

At this juncture, the Committee is no longer in a position to continue paying these bills, and it is not justifiable or sustainable to do so, given that over 200 customers have been metered and can prepay for their electricity consumption. (This group will not receive any estimated bills).

EEDC and the Committee have accurate data for about 180 customers that applied/paid for meters, which are yet to be installed because of NERC price increase. This group will not receive estimated bills after September 2024 because their meters should be in place by the end of September. (Private notices have been sent to affected individuals to pay the difference that arose from NERC price review).

EEDC has details of all houses and customers connected to the grid and is working on a deadline to get every customer in this category to apply for meters. This will enable EEDC to install their meters before December 2024.  (EEDC will send estimated bills directly to this group for settlement until they migrate to prepaid metering).

*EEDC has obtained the support of community leaders and the Committee to disconnect consumers who fail to pay for their consumption*.

EEDC has commenced operations at their Oguta office - No 110 Ogbuide Road, paid for by the community, and are open to the public for resolution of all electricity and metering enquiries.

In view of the foregoing, we wish to inform all our people that September bills will be issued by EEDC to all connected households and encourage you to proceed with a copy of the bill to EEDC office, pay the bill and collect your receipt. *Please do not pay any individual or agent outside the EEDC office*.

We also encourage everyone to review the options for recharging meters and ensure that your meters are always in credit to benefit from the improving supply to our community. Please see attached guidance on topping up your meter and note the importance of paying the current bill promptly to avoid diversion of our power supply to other communities under the guise of non payment of bills.

It has taken a lot of energy to restore this level of power, and we can not afford to risk a reversal of the momentum.

Please be guided.

Mbona ni.
