Not syncing contacts in the background

I don't understand. Is contact syncing not included under the option
of how often to sync? My calendar syncs every 4 hours as expected.
My contacts don't sync unless I manually sync them. I added a contact
to my gmail account this morning, 10 hours have passed and it is still
not synced. It only synced once I manually synced contacts. My
calendars have been syncing fine all day. 'm using a dash running WM
6.1 Smartphone by the way.

Yes, contact sync is not currently auto-sync (on mobile) for exactly these reasons.  When we add incremental sync, we will add it to autosync.  I will have to look into your popup issue, but I recommend setting it to never merge, which is now the default.

Why never merge? vs always merge? Shouldn't both not ask me? or are
you saying that the "always merge" option may be buggy, but the "never
merge" option seems to be working.

There is a case where there is a collision in email address (you have a new phone contact with an email that is already in Google) that google will reject, and this will require a merge question.  And if you say no, it will not merge but it will ask it again next time.  I will have to check to see if there is a setting to always ignore those duplicate contacts.

We recommend never merge as that allows you to choose which duplicate to delete in the case where you have two of the same contact.

I'm using WM6.0 on T-Mobile Dash. I was using SBS Exchange with
direct push to sync email/contacts/calendar. Oggsync was a great
alternative to sync contacts, but if it doesn't do it real-time and
requires manual intervention, this defeats the purpose. Any idea
when/if a background sync for contacts will be available soon?
