Hi guys! :)

Posting this on the mailing list since it's time to finally get the
developer list going IMO.

Right now I'm in a bit of a situation; I have 15 weeks left on my
education and it's supposed to be as a trainee at some company.
However, most of the companies I've applied for have said no, so that
leaves me of 15 weeks of doing a project of my own choosing.

Since it has to be related to the technologies I'm studying (game-
related stuff), and since my teach doesn't know Linux, I can't pick
the firmware as that would involve lots and lots of low-level coding,
and my teach would have no way of judging my project. I can, however,
pick the HomeUI, and I have so done. I turned in the project
specification this afternoon, and my teach has Ok:ed it.

What this means is that if things go the way it looks like, I will be
slugging off an amazing 15 weeks of crappy code on the HomeUI - full
time. Wooh! :) My goal is to get to a usable firmware.

Don't get your hopes up completely, though; this is my backup plan.
There's still a company out there that hasn't said no, so on the odd
chance of me getting the job (not exactly holding my breath...) I'll
go with that. Career trumphs a hobby project right now, sorry guys. ;)
But it doesn't look like I'll get it. I'll know for sure at the end of
the month.

This reminds me, do we want to participate in the summer of code this
year? In that case we must meet up and discuss it someday soon.

Regards,

I think being part of the Google Summer of Code would be very awesome. I don't know if they'd accept our project until we have some sort of code up on our Subversion server, but this is definitely a goal we should shoot for.

Okay, no anwers from the game companies, so it looks like it's 15
weeks on OGC. :) This is how I'll do it;

1. I'll set up a developer blog somewhere (been meaning to do that for
ages actually, never had a need for it until now though), should be up
sometime this week. I'll post a link here and on the forums once I
announce it.
2. I'll start working on the HomeUI proper next week (Tuesday Feb
12th), and that is also when I'll head up to school to speak with my
teach and flesh out the last details.
3. Unless anyone has any major objections, I'll be going with OIS 1.2
for our input library thingie. The only disadvantage for it that I can
see, is that it's C++ - But, it should be possible to create C-style
bindings from it, if someone wants that.
4. I'll be spending this week planning and preparing my build
environment. Hopefully I'll have something to show within four or five
weeks. :) Just follow my dev blog on my homepage, coming up soon!

Well, that's it for now.

Can we schedule a chat/meeting sometime soon? I'd love to have a more in depth conversation about all this ;)

Would this Saturday @ 16:00  (10am here) be too short a notice?
