cadwork is a CAD software, developed by the CSEM. It allows users to draw, to design, or to manufacture. Originally, cadwork was created for the watch industry, but now it is mostly used by the architecture, engineering and construction market, that is civil engineering, carpentry, topographic, road building, architecture, armed concrete, glue laminated timber, stairs.
cadwork offers special modules to provide solutions for different tasks. The modules are fully-fledged components, related to each area of activity and they can be arranged to represent an entity. Thus, they can be exchanged against other modules, or complete an already existing CAD / CAM solution. The existing modules are the following: 2D-Layouts and details, 3D-Modeling, cadwork Viewer, 3D-Cabinet, Roof, Element, List, Piece by piece shop drawing, CNC machines, Staircases, Variant-parametric, Glulam.

cadwork ist bereits seit 2016 aktives Mitglied bei BuildingSMART und gestaltet in den Arbeitsgruppen für den Holzbau den Ausbau der BIM-Methode entscheidend mit. Gleichzeitig wurde die BIM-Methode immer direkter mit dem cadwork 3D Modell gekoppelt und die Bedienung vereinfacht.
Learning objective: to learn about a new and promising wood-based product for non-residential and multi-storey building that has been established in Europe for 15 years. Different types of assemblies will be presented through case studies and the performance attributes of the product will be discussed.
FIrst log entry for the project includes the initial measurements of individual parts of the headphones, and a quick concept model. While tedious, this will pay off in the end as I want to have a full assembly in ONShape (all files will be open source) so I can visualize the assembly and reduce iteration. There really is an interesting approach to the design by the original designers to have swivel and extending features for the drivers. I want to maintain the original fit/form; as seen by the photos there are some tricky features which may require additional parts. The tricky features mainly consist of small indents for indexing of the driver in swivel and extension. This will be made more clear in future posts.
As always I try to keep number of parts in an assembly at a minimum. The idea I originally had was to have it all one piece, but some of these small details will require a multi part assembly.
