i currently own a dell optiplex 790 and upgrading it to a budget gaming pc im planning to upgrade the pentium G640 to a I7 2600K And The Spec Info Shows Intel I7 Quad Core Series All The Core I7 2600's

Thanks Brad for the additional information as it's very helpful for OP to consider. I was simply providing answer to the query that upgrading to a k processor could be done. The added info on graphics were to point out those machines had been upgraded for gaming purposes. How it'd been done or any technical details discussion is not possible due to the lack of information from OP.

Every machine has its own limitation, but the total cost for upgrading this outdate machine could be high and won't yield the value and benefit. For the needed performance, it would be wiser to invest that spending into a newer system. Where and which one to get will depend on the region and OP budget.
