Althoughthat crazy good Korean beef is the star, it definitely gets a run for its money thanks to the quick slaw and sauce to end all sauces. Both take mere minutes to throw together and the grand combination of tortilla + tender beef + tangy veggie slaw + spicy creamy sauce is exactly why I cannot stop thinking about this meal.

We had the beef over rice, coleslaw on the side, and sauce drizzled over everything and it was excellent. I reduced the amount of sriracha for my spicy averse kids, and we all gobbled it up! Everyone agreed this should be in our regular rotation.

I love to mix the slaw and sauce together instead of the slaw dressing. And I like to use go-chu jang instead of Sri racha too. Thank you Mel! We are low carb and just eat without tortillas. When I use steak I just marinate while I make the slaw and that seems to work just fine! Totally scrumptious!

Ground beef is absolutely as scrumptious! I made the switch and my big family barely even noticed. I serve it over rice for ease, the pile on slaw and sauce. Devine and family economical for such a fantastic meal.

this is a great recipe and i have made it a few different ways. its always really tasty and popular. we add hot paprika to the sauce. best of all is that these tacos taste 100 times better where i live because marijuana is legal in my state!

This recipe is really fantastic! I marinaded the flank steak whole and grilled it. The flavor of the beef on its on own is super yummy and when combined with the slaw and that sauce, these tacos are a new favorite for me and my family. The list of ingredients looks kind of long but most of it is in the pantry anyway and all comes together quickly. Also, I had the leftover meat, slaw and sauce in a bowl without tortilla for lunch the next day, and it was still delicious! Thanks, Mel!

These were good, but not extraordinary.

First, instead of light or low sodium soy sauce, I just use less of regular soy sauce. The low sodium is high in potassium and other chemicals. Read this -sauce_n_5105861?fbclid=IwAR394N7n25lTB47-LoXvGV-Xw5KT5rGPNKf74JcvWRt7G7uLSA2Pvwa3rxE! You can add a little water if the amount of soy sauce greatly effects how much marinade you have.

The dressing for the coleslaw was awful. However, I think maybe my oil had gone bad. I was surprised that there was no vinegar or sugar in it. Once again, almost identical or other recipes I found so I think I need to go buy fresh oil.

This is delish! Making it for the 2nd time tonight and since I really love one-skillet cooking, I'm adding some veg and doubling the sauce to accommodate the extra veg. Tonight I've added fresh mushrooms, fresh chopped zucchini and a little leftover frozen broccoli. Thanks for the recipe!

Another night with a pound of ground beef and not a clue what to do with it! I have been cooking for years but ground beef is harder to use with my hubby. He doesnt like italian food or noodles. So for spaghetti I have to make meat balls for him to eat it. I am gluten free so hamburgers and sloppy joes are a no go as I havent found good buns. So you see my dilemma! Your recipe saved me and is one of the best meals I have had in a long time. I am planning for the next time I make it already! Also for the times we are low carb dieting it would be great wrapped in lettuce leaves. But tonight I had it with jasmine rice and sugar snap peas.

Instead of Ground Beef I actually make it with thin strips of Sirloin marinated in the sauce. After I cooked the beef ? I sprinkled toasted sesame seeds on the beef ? and serve over Jasmine Rice with chopped green onion. Fantastic!!!

As I mention in the video, my mom used to make kimchi from 200 heads of cabbage! This was kimjang kimchi, made with her friends at the beginning of winter, and meant to last until the spring. 3 to 4 of her friends would come over and help her chop vegetables and most importantly, spread the paste on the leaves. This always needs to be done by hand. They would bring their own rubber gloves, and spend the day talking and laughing, and always had pollock stew or beef radish soup for lunch. They had a lot of fun!

My monthly letter to my readers includes my recipe roundup, funny and touching stories, upcoming events, reader comments and photos of what you guys are cooking! It's delivered the first day of every month.

If you want to make your kimchi juicier, salt the cabbage for a shorter time so it retains more moisture when you make it. Then your kimchi will have lots of brine. Alternatively, you can turn it over and press down the top with a wooden spoon after a day, and the brine will come up.

i have been making your kimchi a few times now and it always turns out great! however i tried making one yesterday and this batch of kimchi didnt not ferment(no bubbling or fizzing). would like to know if i should wait a few more days at room temperature to see if it ferments or is there any ingredients i can add to kick start the fermentation. also is it safe to be consumed if there are no fermentation?

just checked on the kimchi and it had started to ferment. on my previous batch of kimchi it usually takes only one night to start bubbling and fizzy. hence the reason why i started to worry it doesnt ferment only after one night. hopefully the kimchi turns out great! thank you so much for such a wonderful recipe maangchi!

My husband and I have been putting up batches of kimchi following your recipe for years. Often making Kimichi soup from it. It over the years has become our favorite comfort food. If have a cold or your not feeling your best because you have had a rough day then Kimchi soup is my go to dish.

So I offered to teach them all how to make it while I was home. So we set a date. A few days before I took them all to HMart to show them what ingredients they would need. We had a great time shopping together to get what we needed. A few days later we gathered together making a huge batch so each household could bring some home and share in the bounty.

Then after we all joined together for hot pot for dinner. I made sure to put up extra porridge so I could serve it over fresh cucumbers with our dinner. So they all got a chance to taste the fresh porridge as I am always amazed at how it changes during the fermentation process.

Often when we travel my husband and I visit small Korean restaurants and markets since I can not have a refrigerator without our house kimchi or korean food. Or wanting to taste others korean cooking. Often making friends with the people all over the US we meet bonding over Korean food. Finding that this food has helped me to bond with others nourishing my body mind and soul.

Many are amazed that this middle aged white lady loves their food so much that she even travels when her own batches of home made kimchi!! Sharing in my tales of putting up batches in my 100 square foot truck camper. Laughing at my enjoyment of this simple dish.

Please refrigerate your kimchi before leaving to prevent it from becoming too sour. While kimchi will continue to ferment in the refrigerator, the cold temperature will slow down the fermentation process. Good luck!

Love your kimchi recipes, yum yum and your video presence is great. I prefer to watch and then work with the recipes. My friends also commented that it is the best kimchi they have tried, so well done to you.

Thank you so much for the recipe. I did it today for the first time. My kids and I love Korean Kimchi. I decided to make it instead of driving about 40mts to the store that has kimchi. Wow!!! It looks amazing waiting for the fermentation process even though after 1 hour I tried it and wow amazing! Thank you!!!

Which to get? Both are best sellers and either one is a good choice if you want to learn Korean home cooking. Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking has all the recipes for all the essential Korean pastes and sauces, but my second book Maangchi's Big Book of Korean Cooking has more recipes, more photos, and more variety.

When we learn Korean, it is important learn how to express our feelings in Korean. For example, if someone asks you, why you are taking lessons to learn Korean, you may say that you are learning Korean because you like it! With that in mind, let me teach you how to say good in Korean.

Kimchi is a traditional Korean pickle of fermented vegetables packed in tangy, spicy juice. The cabbage version (the most common type) is best in this soup. The cabbage acts like a mop for the sauce so you get extra flavour in the broth!

This recipe has a great efficient flow to it. Pour the stock into the saucepan then as it is coming up to the simmer, measure out and add the remaining ingredients into the broth. Then while the broth is simmering for 10 minutes to bring the flavours together, chop the veg and cook the noodles. Then assemble the soup bowls!

Wow, such a quick dish, it actually took 15 mins to whip up, and it is absolutely packed full of flavor. I had some firm tofu which i cut into cubes and added to the broth to quickly add some protein to the dish. It is definitely spicy!!! but at a bearable level. It left me feeling very warm, so it is perfect for these cold nights as we approach winter. Would recommend making this! So easy and so much flavor.

Definitely not 5 minutes of prep but would make this again. This was sooo good. I added some soft tofu. Been following and using your recipes and I love that the food are so tasty and use ingredients that are easily available. Just got your DINNER cookbook and already made 2 dishes from it!

I like spicy so I like this flavoursome and full of veg-meat noodles. Unfortunately, it was a bit too spicy for my 2 teenagers, so I will need to tone it down for them (in a separate pot) next time.

I made this tonight. Very tasty. Hubby thought it was a touch too spicy. I added 500g of peeled raw prawns after the 10 min broth simmer to add some protein. Added veg once prawns were almost cooked.

There is no kimchi to be had in the remote mountain village in which I live in Costa Rica. I do import the gochujang, though not in large enough quantities to make my own kimchi. How best to sub? Some sort of marinated cabbage, carrot blend and add extra gochujang?
