Are you sure you're not confusing something here? Turns out of X amount? Does that mean you got it to run again after the crash and continued playing, or are you perhaps looking at the number of factions in the game instead and going by their turn order? 'Cause if you knew what faction it might happen with, that way you could figure out where the issue might lie. Something mod-related perhaps, or maybe you're simply unlucky. I wish there was a way to view the default turn order of factions without the player's taken into consideration.

However if you can still encounter the issue, I'd like you to raise this to Sega Support by clicking here as they can better assist with the problems you're experiencing, they'll need your dmp.file from your crash report logs, this will be the one that generates directly after the crash happens, they'll also need the link to this thread so they can see what we have forward you to them for additional support.

They will also need your DxDiag. and Save.file the crash occurred on and a link back to this thread so they know why we have asked you to head there.

Thank you.

I'm playing as the Julius Clan(red), the long campaign.I have to conquer 50 territories and so far am at 43. I've moved in on Egypt from the south and north while my ships have blockaded their ports.Numidia has 1 territory left. One of my armies is sieging it while a blue ally(forget their name), has sent a diplomat and I suspect him of causing the crash. I suspect he obtains protectorate from them while my army is sieging the town and this is causing the crash. I thought that wasn't possible. I don't know. I hit the end turn button and then on the rebel turn it crashes to desktop. On the computers turn it moves over that town and crashes instantly. The town just west of the 3 Egyptian cities (Alexandria, Memphis, and Thebes I think). Can someone please help? I can't believe it had to happen after I'm almost done.

Legionary posted 08 January 2006 18:45 EDT (US) 1 / 12 The problem here is that some unit(s) somewhere are in a state in the game which will generate an overflow (error) condition, and an attempt by RTW to access a protected chunk of PC memory will be denied by the OS instantly closing the game. This protects your PC. Its called the CTD (crash to desktop). You won't have any reasonable way of determining what unit or combinations of conditions are causing this, but the way around it is to change what you are doing, or change unit locations, save, and try again until the game gets through the turn with no CTD.If you try lots of variations of unit finishing locations, not siegeing/continuing sieges, taking cities, etc., and cannot hit upon a combination that will not CTD, you must go back to a prior save, and pick it up from there and hope the exact CTD-causing history does not develop again. One known set of conditions is certain units in certain cities that when they have no movement alternative (all routes blocked), the pathfinder in RTW evidently causes a CTD. The way out of it is to move surrounding pieces to allow the pathfinder (a software routine that seeks ways to move units) to complete without the CTD.The main moral of the story is to save frequently. Use the saves to recover from this sort of situation. I lost one short campaign once, due to never having made a save. Now I have autosave, and save every turn. Legionary posted 08 January 2006 18:47 EDT (US) 2 / 12 PS, try unblockading some ports, and see if that alleviates the CTD... if so, you can likely use trial and error to find the exact port blockage causing the CTD. But again, the port blockade itself may not be the cause... or it may be a contributing factor, but not the cause. We just can't tell, except by trial and error... then its a function of patience and time.WarTrain Tech, RTW, Strat Content Contributor, Moderator @ Rome: Total War Heaven

Legionary posted 08 January 2006 19:17 EDT (US) 3 / 12 Thanks Wartrain. I sent an assassin from Memphis to kill the Scipii Diplomat and lifted the siege. lol It's still crashing. I will keep trying, thanks for the tip.Are they planning on fixing this bug? This is a real show stopper. Wartrain
Legionary posted 08 January 2006 19:56 EDT (US) 4 / 12 The problem is that its not a single bug. It is basically error-checking and bounds-checking (I presume... I don't have any access to CA source code or dev secrets). It takes manpower, and risks "breaking" other game elements to hunt and solve these issues, if they are not accounted for in the initial game design.Thankfully, they happen relatively rarely... but they do happen, and have happened to me too. The thing to do is maintain a long string of savegames, which will usually be the most effective way of working around such errors. As a note to all, if you compress a set of savegames (zip, or even better, WinRAR), you can achieve as much as 96% compression! That means 100MB can be compressed into 4MB, for archival.WarTrain Tech, RTW, Strat Content Contributor, Moderator @ Rome: Total War Heaven

Legionary posted 08 January 2006 22:49 EDT (US) 5 / 12 I returned to a save a few years prior. I sent the assassin to kill the diplomat again and made sure there was no way anything was being path blocked, even my navies. It's still happening 167BC at the same place "Libya". I think perhaps they are completing a building that year that makes the game crash for some reason. Oh well, I'll try even more years prior and see if I get past it.I may just end up using a cheat to open up the other civilizations to play. It's too bad because I was well on the way to doing it the right way. Thanks for your help all the same. Wartrain
Legionary posted 09 January 2006 19:09 EDT (US) 6 / 12 What I have done in similar situations is to move lots of pieces (units) a little bit... move maybe half your armies, even to non-optimized end-of-turn locations. You are not using an Italian RTW or a Polish RTW, right? Those 2 have specific localized fixes, though I'm not sure the things fixed include something that causes your specific issue described.WarTrain Tech, RTW, Strat Content Contributor, Moderator @ Rome: Total War Heaven

Legionary posted 10 January 2006 19:47 EDT (US) 9 / 12 I just copied and pasted the factions I wanted to play.I gave up on that game. I was looking forward to finishing but oh well... life is tough. lolI'm now doing a Carthage campaign to 15 provinces now. When I first started the previous Julii long campaign I had the 1.0 version. Halfway through I patched to 1.2, 1.3, and 1.5 sequentially. Could this be the root of the problem? If I was to start a new long campaign with a new faction will things be better do you think? What are your experiences starting a fresh game with 1.5? Wartrain

If you have a 1.0 save, you can continue to play it safely in a 1.2. In theory, 1.5 should play it... but I can't say for sure first-hand. But 1.2 does indeed play 1.0, so if you do a multi-install, you might be able to continue your 1.0, but you need to go back to a save where it was done in 1.0, not 1.5.

So I bought a new GPU that is Sapphire RX590 Nitro+SE and it is crashing my pc. When im 5-20 min into a game a buzzing sound comes from speakers and no signal on monitor. But fans keep spinning. PC is still running but with no display and its frozen. And I've seen some people have the same issue with this GPU.

Anyone able to solve this problem ? PC runs without problem when I'm not playing games doesn't matter time. In games theres nothing weird no lag 60 fps ultra graphics in Total war Warhammer 2 for example. Anything comes to mind ? I'm not gonna send this to RMA yet. Takes too much time and I wanna play some games I was deployed for 6 months didn't even touch a PC.

Exactly the same problem, but with Sapphire RX580 Nitro+. No signal after 30+ minutes of heavy games, furmark works fine under 100% load but sometimes crashes on exit (also happens while exiting games). Tried same stuff OP mentioned:

Alright I managed to solve the problem. Not going to send the card to RMA even though I just bought it few days ago and I could've replaced it. I don't think its a hardware issue. Not that I have a solid proof but a hunch coming from years of pc hardware experience.

After that I played demanding games on ultra 1080p graphics. I left them on benchmark or middle of the mission when I wasn't near PC probably for 8 hours with zero problem. no lag no stutter. I was watching Wattman monitor too btw. Activity at 100% at some of the games.(I was scared of CPU bottlenecking this card) GPU at 1560 Mhz clock at 2100 mhz.

The problem was GPU crashing the system after 70C degrees for some reason. I'm assuming its a software issue because if this card was faulty it couldn'tve played 8 hours of games on ultra. If there was a hardware issue card would've crashed or stuttered etc along the way. Post replies here if this solves your problem too.
