Tech Tuesday - Quizizz Instructor Paced Mode

Most Tuesdays between Labor Day and Memorial Day, this year’s committee will send out a Tech Tuesday update with tips, tricks, and resources that you can either use in your language classroom or that will make your life a bit easier.

Quizizz: Instructor Paced Mode 

If you have been using Quizizz, you may have noticed that their newest feature includes an Instructor-Paced Mode. While Quizizz traditionally has offered a great formative review mode through their game mode or homework mode, Instructor-Paced mode provides more of the features of PearDeck or Nearpod without needing to have their subscription. The application of this feature is pretty simple. All you have to do is upload a PDF version of your slides into Quizizz, and then you can create your own questions to go along with the slides. You can even import questions from other Quizizz games you have created! This is a great way to formatively assess your students while giving them the instruction for the day. I also like that this can be done with students who are hybrid or participating in class from a separate space. 

What I like most about using Quizizz is the variety of questions you can ask students as well as the game-like play of the site. You can ask multiple choice questions, select all that apply, fill in the blank, short response, and more. Students can earn points, track their score on the leaderboard, and have question opportunities like “redemption questions” to save their score. Perhaps my favorite feature of Quizizz is the choice to shuffle questions and answer orders. This prevents students from following their peers or copying a classmate’s answers. However, the question shuffle does not appear to be an option in an instructor-paced lesson.
