--- National Study Recruitment Language ---
Dear Post-Secondary Language Educators,
We are thrilled to announce that ACTFL will be adapting the work of Murphy et al. (2022), Van Gorp et al. (2024), and others to develop a multi-pronged, national study to investigate why undergraduates do and do not study world languages.
Should your post-secondary institution wish to learn more or participate in this study and administer the questionnaire, please reply to rese...@actfl.org by December 8, 2025, with the subject line “National Study on Motivation for Learning languages.”
ACTFL has obtained IRB and will add researchers to the study and release institutional-specific data to the recipient named on the IRB. Participating researchers must agree to use the data consistent with IRB standard practices and to include the original project team as co-authors on any publication. ACTFL’s flagship journal, Foreign Language Annals will have the right of first refusal of any publication.
If you know of any other post-secondary institutions that would like to participate, please do not hesitate to share this information.
Thank you so much for your dedication to language learning! We hope to collaborate with you on this national project!
Best,
ACTFL Research
