Hello, OWLA Community!
OWLA is excited to announce our Fall Workshops: Real Language, Real Connections.
See all the information here.
Join us for this one day event featuring two excellent workshop opportunities. We are excited to host this event at Buckeye Valley High School in beautiful Delaware, Ohio. See below for more information on each workshop:
Session 1: Building Intercultural Communication Skills Using Authentic Resources (Central States Extension Workshop) by Alexis Blum, based on the workshop offered by Lesley Grahn at Central States 2025.
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Participants will explore strategies for selecting authentic resources for both cultural and communicative value and design tasks around those resources with a focus on growth in interpretive, interpersonal, presentational and intercultural communication skills. Participants will create lesson sequences that integrate the modes of communication where students investigate cultural products, practices, and perspectives and interact through authentic scenarios in a culturally appropriate way.
Session 2: Proficiency “Glow Up”: Building Competency in Lesson Planning for the Next Generation by Melissa Dalton, Michigan World Language Association President-Elect
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Join fellow educators in a collaborative teacher lab to test out new strategies for delivering instruction in a proficiency-based classroom. We will consider the best strategies to reach and engage today’s students in deep, structure-rich learning experiences. This workshop will encourage educators to use their own creativity to tailor lessons for their unique collection of personalities in the classroom. Preparation is still at the core of student engagement. Successful planning can be mastered through collaboration in a safe, encouraging setting!
LUNCH: A box lunch option is available for attendees who are staying for both workshops. Attendees are encouraged to stay for conversation and community building. Anyone is welcome to join!
A discount is also provided for attendees who stay for both workshops.
A certificate of attendance as well as CEUs will be provided for attending each workshop.
