The AATF Webinar Series Continues-- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission Presents 'We MUST Talk About Bruno"
Join the AATF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission and presenter Milton Alan Turner for a webinar on Saturday, October 1 at 11am ET/10am CT/9am MT/8am PT/5am HT entitled "We MUST Talk About Bruno: The importance of having difficult conversations"
Recent pressures to limit or even forbid the discussion of “divisive” issues have led many teachers to avoid discussing the topics of race, racism or social justice. The very mention of them brings discomfort and many avoid talking about them at all costs, like the character Bruno in the Disney film Encanto. However, most pedagogies and research suggest that we not only should but must talk about these issues, even if the conversations are difficult. I'll discuss how social justice standards, and asset-based pedagogies, such as culturally responsive teaching, intersect and explain why how we learn is as important as what we learn.
You must be a current AATF member to attend. Register in advance for this meeting:

The AATF is an inclusive association, which seeks to build, value, honor and cultivate diversity. Associations that are diverse in age, race, ethnicity, faith, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, and perspectives are better associations. To this end, we seek to create a community where educators, from any background, can promote francophone cultures around the world.
