CARLA has been delivering high-quality professional learning to world language educators for many years. University of Minnesota: CARLA Summer Institutes 2026: 31st annual professional development program for language teachers

The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of Minnesota has provided high-quality professional development for language educators for over 30 years. In 2026, CARLA will offer six institutes (five synchronous online institutes and one in-person institute), all designed to showcase CARLA’s current initiatives and to reflect the center’s commitment to link research and theory with practical applications for the classroom. 

Check out the line-up for the 2026 CARLA Summer Institute Program in June 2026. Because federal funding for the Title VI Language Resource Center (LRC) Program has been terminated, this is the final CARLA summer institute program that will be offered for the foreseeable future. Register early!

Priority Teacher Professional Development Scholarship Program

Priority Scholarship logoThe Priority Teacher Professional Development Scholarship program is designed to promote equity and access to affordable professional development for world language educators who are currently teaching a Less Commonly Taught Language in the United States and/or are currently teaching at a Community College, Historically Black College/University, or postsecondary Minority Serving Institution in the United States. The program provides funding for selected teachers in these categories to attend a CARLA Summer Institute for a small commitment fee.

Apply for the Priority Teacher Professional Development Scholarship by March 13, 2026.
