Grants (deadline is coming up)
The Center for Latin American Studies at The Ohio State University, in
partnership with the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission and The Ohio State
University Libraries, is accepting applications for a grant that will help you
bring high quality Latin American, Spanish, Portuguese, and bilingual English
and Spanish books into your classroom. Information below.
Workshop: Putting Critical Language Awareness into Practice
This workshop has been created specifically for K-12 teachers and will be lead by Dr. Sergio Loza.
Collaboration
If you teach in the Columbus area, I am available to visit your Spanish
classes, both L2 and Heritage, to speak about the opportunities and resources
that the Department of Spanish and Portuguese can offer. If you are interested,
please send me the days and times that work for you.

Where Ohio Readers Bloom: K–12 Teacher Grants
Grant Deadline: March 13, 2026
Where Ohio Readers Bloom K-12 Teacher Grants supports Ohio K–12 teachers in bringing high-quality Latin American, Spanish, Portuguese, and bilingual (English–Spanish) books into their classrooms. The goal of this grant is to advance literacy, language education, and bilingual education for students in Ohio.
Funding is generously provided by the Center for Latin American Studies at The Ohio State University, in partnership with the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission and The Ohio State University Libraries. Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Deadline: March 13th, 2026
Submit the completed Book Request Spreadsheet for 5–7 books with your application.
What to Expect:
- Select 5 to 7 books (focused on Latin American and bilingual literature in Spanish, Portuguese, and Indigenous languages)
- Submit your application along with your book request spreadsheet
- We will send a follow-up message confirming receipt of your application and verifying contact information for selected winners.
The Center for Latin American Studies at The Ohio State University works to increase the supply of Latin American specialists at all levels of the educational system. An integral part of its mission is to advance and disseminate knowledge about Latin America among K-12 and postsecondary educators, the business community, media, and the community at large. We support educators by offering programming, language courses, and teaching resources that can be accessed in our website.
