With Notes on iCloud.com, you can capture a quick thought or save something important for later. You can also view and edit notes you created in the Notes app on any device with Notes turned on in iCloud settings.

You can also quickly access Notes from Control Center. Go to Settings > Control Center, and add Notes. Then open Control Center and tap Notes to create a note. Or, just ask Siri to "Start a new note."

Pin your favorite or most important notes to make them easier to find. To pin a note, swipe right over the note, then release. Or go to the note, tap the More button , then tap the Pin button . To unpin a note, swipe right over the note again.

To add something from another app, like a location or website, tap the Share button in the app that you want to share from. Tap the Notes app, then select the note that you want to add an attachment to, then tap Save.

To add a photo or video, tap in a note, then tap the Camera button . Tap Take Photo or Video to create a new photo or video, or Choose Photo or Video to add an existing one. Tap Use Photo or Use Video, or tap Add to add an existing one. You can also scan documents and add them to your notes.

You can also search for attachments. While you're in a Notes list, tap the More button , then tap View Attachments. To go to the note with the attachment, touch and hold the thumbnail of the attachment, then tap Show in Note.

You can use an Apple Pencil with a compatible iPad to create an instant note from the Lock Screen or pick up where you left off on your last note. To change these settings, go to Settings > Notes, tap Access Notes from the Lock Screen, and choose an option.

The Notes app lets you lock any note that you want to keep private from anyone else that might use your device. Depending on your device, you can use Face ID, Touch ID, along with a password to lock and unlock your notes.

I have moved a locked note from my iPhone to iCloud to be able to access it from multiple devices. I do not remember notes password as from the very beginning I unlocked them with Touch ID only. And now when the note is in iCloud the Touch ID is not an option, it requires the password only.

You would have created a Notes password before enabling Touch ID as an alternative. Using Touch ID does not remove the password. Use can use either on a device with Touch ID, but only the password on icloud.

I do can use my Touch ID to unlock all my notes on the phone. Touch ID is enabled for Notes and was never reset/disabled. It works perfectly well, and indeed it unlocks all the notes on the phone when I use Touch ID for one locked note. BUT it doesn't apply for those notes which are in iCloud section. So if there was a way to move the locked note back to my device (where it was originally created) I would be able to unlock it with Touch ID.

I am having the same issue although I am not a developer I am using version 10.11 Beta (15A225f) Notes Version 4.0 (512). I can confirm that I was definitely able to create notes on my macbook before the beta installation. Another strange occurence happened with Notes when I first installed the beta OS, some of my notes duplicated and triplicated. I have already deleted 28 "copies" but have more to delete when I am done comparing to make sure I don't lose any data. I purchased storage and I currently have 142 GB available so I doubt that is an issue. Another thing to point out, I am unable to create a new note using iCloud and On My Mac acccounts.

While I was typing this, I experimented with something and was able to create a new note. Try this: in the Notes app, go to View then choose Show Toolbar. You will then see the Create a Note icon and you should be able to create a new note. Still not sure why the menu or keyboard shortcut doesn't work.

First new note button greyed out > then I went to System preferences > iCloud > deselected and reselected note > coming back to notes, all notes disappeared ( stress levels high ! ) > all buttons are greyed out, tagging is not working, hashtag is not working. So basically if someone is storing important information in notes, you may loose it all ?I do see it on iCloud, though I am worried that somehow while syncing this may also get wiped outThere is no option to back up notes and restore themApple Engineers - please continue to work diligently to look at these forums and solve our issues.

The problem is in Quick notes. As you can try, if your last note is empty, the New note button is greyed and you cannot press it (even by cmd+N or menu).
Fill the new note and you can create another one.Monterey introduced Quick notes. When the Quick note is empty, it behaves same and you cannot create New note.

new note on my MacBook has been greyed out for many years. Every 6 months or so I look for a solution. I have asked many apple experts.I have a tone of important notes I created on my iPhone which works. I can't delete these. These are visible in the MacBook, but I can't create new ones on the MacBook. Its a bug which has been around for years. Both devices have notes set to sync in iCloud preferences.Today I tried switching off notes sync on iPhone, but it said it would deleted all my notes so I canceled. This is crazy. However, interestingly, if I switch off notes sync on the Mac, it doesn't say this, but it did it anyway without warning.then it loaded them again, now I can create new notes, for the first Time on my Mac.

I recently wanted to export all of my iCloud notes & discovered that the Notes app only lets you export one note at a time. I've been using the Notes app for a decade, so I've accumulated hundreds of notes over the years & I know that some people have got in the tens of thousands. One-by-one just ain't gonna cut it!

In the end, I finally figured out that you can download them directly from Apple, but you have to do it in a roundabout way. Since it was such a hassle for me, I figured I'd share how I did it to help others with the same problem.

@AW2307 My iCloud works perfectly across all my devices. Neither is there any problem with storage on the iCloud or on the devices. So the problem is certainly MN3. The documents are syncing but not the highlights or the notebooks.

Hello, I'm new here, looking for note taking alternatives. I see that Joplin syncs via several way but not iCloud, and no comments were found before about this in this forum. I can imagine the reason, but I want to open a new feature discussion if you like

Just to let everyone know this information for icloud webdav at the link provided does not work. I have spent a couple hours searching on google for any viable settings for icloud and nothing seems to work. I also downloaded a client and tried a few combinations of server name and creds mostly using icloud.com as the base url. but no joy.

If you are interested in using iCloud for your notes and are exclusively locked to the Apple Ecosystem, you might be better off moving to a note-taking app such as Bear. Other than that, the devs here would be much better suited to explaining this more.

First, on the your Mac, go to your local drive folder where you sync your Joplin notes and notebooks. Move up 1 level.
Now, create an alias of that folder.
Next, drag the entire Joplin sync target folder from your local drive on to your iCloud Drive. Do NOT include the alias you just made. Leave that where it is.
In your Joplin desktop preferences, select Local files, then navigate to the alias file. Select that. As far as I can determine, the path that is created in the prefs references a location in your home directory (/Library/) called 'Mobile Documents' that points to that alias.
Now, when you sync, all your notes and notebooks wind up on your iCloud Drive. This has worked flawlessly for me for a month or so.
I think it might be doable with the iPhone version, but at this point I am still working on that.

However, there were a few changes I made to the script. I changed the smart quotes to straight quotes. I changed the "set the modification date of myNote to myCreateDate" to "set the modification date of myNote to myModDate". And I found all of the extra tags unnecessary, so I just used the tag "Imported from Notes" Also, Apple Script Editor is now called Script Editor, found in the Utilities folder.

Thanks for those links Sentinel / Big Redling! Seamless indeed!
Now I don't have to worry about looking in the wrong place for that one note.
I'm starting to like Apple Script Editor more and more. Though (as a front-end-developer) I still find the whole natural-language-syntax hard to get used to!

The problem with any of these, and I've seen this same script in about 10 different places now, is that it doesn't handle attachments. Is there no way to move the attachments in Notes.app over to Evernote?

If Evernote could view my Apple Notes, and if Apple Notes could accept my changes made within Evernote, then I would renew my Premium Subscription. Notes does what I need, but Evernote has many more appreciable features that are worth the Premium price, IF AND ONLY if the two formats can sync with one another. Otherwise, I risk duplicating my efforts by keeping two separate formatting programs. (Just as 2Do syncs with Apple Reminders).

(I work at an office whose IT team blocks Evernote from our network...but I am allowed to access iCloud.com, which of course contains Apple Notes). It would be nice to do my work (at the office) in Notes, and see the sync on my home Mac, so as to utilize the full functionality from home with reminders, lists, etc).

Just a quick look at the above script.
It can be modified on the Apple Notes side to save the attachments from the Apple Note
- save .... in ..... edited: problems are being reported with saving attachments
On the Evernote side, the attachments can be imported
- append ..... attachment ....
