MPD Arrests Suspect in Armed Carjacking
(Washington, D.C.) – The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect involved in an armed carjacking that occurred in Northwest.
On Monday, September 1, 2025, at approximately 1:09 p.m., Fourth District officers responded to the 1300 block of Buchanan Street, Northwest, for reports of an armed carjacking. Upon arrival officers discovered that two suspects approached the victim while she was parking her car, one of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s keys. Both suspects then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
As a result of the detective’s investigation, on Thursday, September 11, 2025, 27-year-Trayvon Sykes, of Waldorf, MD, was arrested and charged with Armed Carjacking.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
