MPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash
(Washington, D.C.) – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Southwest.
On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., First District officers responded to the intersection of 6th Street and M Street, Southwest for reports of a crash. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female pedestrian unconscious and not breathing, struck by a vehicle. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and despite all lifesaving measures, the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 74-year-old Kathy Tanner, of Southwest, DC.
The preliminary investigation indicates while turning into the eastbound lanes of M Street, Southwest, the driver of the vehicle struck the pedestrian while walking in the intersection inside of a marked crosswalk causing her to be caught under the vehicle.
The driver remained on the scene and Major Crash Detectives are investigating.
