Traffic Fatality: 3600 Block of Benning Road, Northeast
(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in the 3600 block of Benning Road, Northeast.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 3:07 a.m., an adult male pedestrian was travelling on foot, mid-block outside of any marked crosswalk, on the exit ramp from the 3600 block of Benning Road, NE to Interstate 295. The pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle, which then fled the scene. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 60-year-old Samuel Walker, of Northeast, DC.
