MPD Arrests Man for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
(Washington, D.C.) – The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a man who pointed a gun at his neighbor and her dog.
On Friday, October 10, 2025, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the suspect approached the victim in the 3400 block of 23rd Street, Southeast, and pointed a BB gun at the victim and her dog. The suspect told the victim that he would shoot both her and her dog. The suspect then retrieved a machete from inside his residence and continued threatening the victim.
Officers arrived on scene, recovered the BB gun, and ultimately took the suspect into custody without further incident. Upon his arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of a machete and a twelve-gauge shotgun. 74-year-old Robert Hammond, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Threats to Kidnap or Injure, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.
