Hi, Ron,               (w cc to Cap 1 officers, and Scott Meyer)

I just got off the phone with Laura Ingalls.  She has reserved a large conference room for us at World Learnng on Tuesday, January 31st, from 11:30 to 2.  It holds 30, has a lectern, and she even said that World Learning would probably help out with the food.  She said there was enough room for us and any of her staff that might like to sit in.

She also said that we would be welcome to use one of the smaller conference rooms on either Tuesday, January 17th or Tuesday, January 24th.  They hold 20.  I told her we'd get back to her on that.  What do you think?

This is turning out well.  Scott Meyer of District 36 is very supportive of our going in, and has offered to provide some introductory materials on TM to provide to World Education staff as well.

Jim

Hi Jim:

We have space on Jan. 31st in one of our conference rooms. Will that work for you?

Dear Laura,

Here's an unusual request for you, but one which might be a WIN-WIN.

Capital Toastmasters 1 meets at the American Bar Association at 740 15th Street.  Unfortunately earlier today we learned that our regular venue will not be available to us for the rest of January.
You had mentioned that you had a conference room at World Learning, (1015 15th Street) and so I thought I'd ask to see if Cap 1 might meet there on ONE of the following days:

Tuesday, January 17th;   Tuesday, January 24th;   Tuesday, January 31st.

Our meetings are from noon to 1:30, and typically we bring in sandwiches from Pot Belly.  We'd need a few minutes of set-up and take-down time on either side.  I anticipate that 15 to 20 members of our members would attend.

You had also mentioned that seeing a live meeting might be a step in eventually starting a club at World Learning.  Depending on the size of the conference room, we'd be happy to have members of your staff sit in with us, and we could even limit our own attendance, if the capacity of the room warranted it.

I know that you've been in touch with Scott Meyer of District 36 about bringing in an hour-long demo meeting.  I envision that having Cap 1 there would not replace that meeting, but would be in addition to it.

I'm cc-ing our club president, Ron Barrett, who has asked me to explore this subject with you, and also Scott Meyer.  Please let me know your thoughts.

If World Learning doesn't have space on one of these days, do you know of any other organization that might within a 3-block radius of 15th and New York?

Best wishes for the New Year!

How many participants does World Education potentially have for a club - we have lost quite a few members, and have many inactive members, and could use another 10 members - perhaps we could just recruit members from World Education and have them join our club.  I will be out of town from Jan. 18 through Feb. 3.

Hi, Cara,               (via email to Cap 1 officers)

World Learning has a staff of well over a hundred.  Laura is the Director of Communication, and has gotten many requests from her staff for professional growth in public speaking.  She's visited Cap 1 and Monumental Voices in the last few months.  She clearly wants to explore starting a club at World Learning.  She's already spoken with Scott Meyer, District 36 Lt. Gov. for Marketing, who is in charge of the chartering new clubs.

I'd very much like to see our current roster, so I could toss some of the nameplates in the accordian file.  I'd look myself, but no longer can access that information at T.I. as a non-officer of the club.

You can access the roster on the Toastmasters website - all you need is your ID and password - call Toastmasters International and they will give it to you.  I don't think that you have to be an officer.  In any event, I will bring the updated roster to the next meeting that I can attend.
