A great week of amazing music kicks off tuesday night with singer-
songwriter Richard Buckner in an special 730PM show. Our friend Fred
Friction opens the show. Advance tickets are $12 at
offbroadwaystl.com. Tickets day of show are $15. The first 5 people
who send me an email at
stevep...@yahoo.com will get in free with a
guest for being a member of our googlegroup!
Wednesday marks the return of former Twangfester and Off Broadway
performer Eilen Jewell. She will perform original material as well as
selections from her new Loretta Lynn tribute EP "Butcher Holler". If
you saw here earlier this year you caught a great version of one of
our favorites "Fist City". Eilen is joined by "Prarie Rehab",
described thusly by Annie at the RFT: "The latter is the new group
formed by the members of the Linemen, sans singer Kevin Butterfield.
Prairie Rehab's sound is certainly a descendent of that band's sweet-
spot country, but pedal steel/guitar/mandolin player Scott Swartz says
the new group is "drawing on influences ranging from Emmylou Harris to
the Beatles to Gram Parsons to the Jayhawks."
Thursday night it's Laura Veirs and the Hall of Flames with the Watson
Twins and Led to Sea. Hopefully you caught Lauras' amazing show here
earlier this year. If not here is your chance to see her live and to
check out the Watson Twins. Yes, they are really twins! Spim magazine
sez " the Watsons consult vintage Southern styles for inspiration,
incorporating touches of country and plenty of hot-blooded soul. The
only problem with "Calling Out," "Forever Me," and other alluring
tracks is that they end too soon-the sultry vocals, churchy organ, and
stinging electric guitar of "Midnight" leave you craving more."
Led To Sea starts the show at 730pm. Advance tickets are $10 at
offbroadwaystl.com. They are $12 day of show.
Friday night is the KDHX benefit "September Gurls and Boys", a tribute
to all things Alex Chilton (Big Star/Box Tops/etc). Highly
Recommended! The best musicians in town will be there...both on stage
and in the audience..and it all benefits our favorite radio station
KDHX. Advance tickets are $10 at
offbroadwaystl.com. Don't forget that
the James Brown tribute we did earlier this year sold out!
Saturday the Chippewa Chapel Band Scramble. Musicians sign up and are
put into bands at random. They write songs, rehearse, and then perform
the songs live at Off Broadway starting at 8PM. Tickets are $10 and
the show is so much fun it should probably be illegal! It's a St Louis
tradition and hosted by the best open mic hosts in captivity from the
Chippewa Chapel.
See you this week!
