Please spread this message.  This does not work in Congressional District 8 as Van Hollen is already a supporter.  However, please spread to other parts of the State.  It is on Safe Silver spring's facebook page and my twitter account: thausner.

Action Needed
Tony --
In Maryland, we can count on our leaders to fight for proven policies that will reduce gun violence. The Firearms Safety Act of 2013 includes the key requirement that handgun purchasers must first go through a fingerprint-based background check and safety training and get a license from the state police. Studies from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research have shown that this type of licensing will greatly reduce gun homicides and gun suicides. Unfortunately, Maryland is not an island, and to keep illegal guns out of our state, we must work toward passing handgun licensing across the country.
Earlier this year, Rep. Chris Van Hollen introduced legislation, HR 2372, which incentivizes states to enact life-saving handgun purchaser licensing legislation like we enacted as part of our Firearm Safety Act of 2013. Connecticut Senator Blumenthal introduced a companion measure in the US Senate, S 1571.
We need your help to urge all the Members of Marylanders' Congressional Delegation to become co-sponsors of these measures. All you need to do is to click here and, within 30 seconds, your message will be sent.
Let me also introduce to you two great new leaders at Marylanders To Prevent Gun Violence. Jen Pauliukonis will be our new Legislative Director and Liz Banach will be our new Outreach Director. They are both terrific and you will be hearing from them soon!
With Jen, Liz and YOU on our side, we will make great strides in the coming months and years towards our mission of saving lives!

Vinny DeMarco

P.S. As always, we count on your support to stay operational. Please consider making a contribution in whatever amount you can here.
