Matilda -- This weekend, Congress has an opportunity to end the ban on gun violence research before they decide on a final budget.  Yesterday, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi drew a line in the sand saying,"we cannot have a bill leave the station that still has that ban on research in it.” Now, the Washington Post is reporting Speaker Paul Ryan’s office believes the ban “could be an area of compromise." This is huge! The fate of the ban could be decided in the coming hours! Contact Congress NOW and tell them to strike any language from the funding bill that restricts the CDC and NIH from doing gun violence research. Sample call script:  I'm a constituent of yours, concerned about the epidemic of gun violence in our country. Congress has an opportunity to end the ban on CDC and NIH gun violence before they decide on a final budget. This 20 year old ban has prevented our public health experts researching the public health epidemic of gun violence that kills 90 Americans every day. It's time to put our families lives above politics. Please strike all language from the funding bill that restricts the CDC and NIH from doing gun violence research. Gun violence is a public health epidemic that kills 90 Americans a day. Congress has effectively banned the Centers for Disease Control from conducting gun violence research for nearly two decades...this has to stop!  Tell Congress to lift the ban and fund research and put the safety of our family over politics.
