Greetings Everyone,
Please see email below. The National Director, Jennifer
Warner has referred Laverne Jordan, Coordinator of Campaign For Judicial
Correctness under the Law to me as the State Director to assist in
getting MD/DC OFA Volunteer Leaders to help with this important issue on
Gun Violence.
I responded to OFA Nationals request and
sent an email to follow up with Laverne, who lives in Montgomery County,
and called on National to partner wth OFA for this
GVP
event she is hosting in Washington, DC at 1629 K Street NW, Suite 300,
Washington, DC 20006 on Saturday, November 7th from 4 pm until 6 pm. Please
see email below. Laverne has already established the event and
expecting about 50-75 people. At this time, she wants OFA partnership
to get volunteers to help make this a successful event by:
1.
Checking in 50-75 participants of the event who will consist of
Congressman Mike Thompson of California or his representative and Ward 8
constituents.
2. Taking control of the room where the event is
held to make certain the event is organized and run well while Laverne
hosts and educate participants about the event.
3. Taking photos and or video with cameras.
4. Sending Social Media messages such as tweeting, facebook, Instagram, etc.
At
this time we don't need to help market the event on CONNECT or MYBO
because of space constraints for a certain number of people. Laverne
feels she has already gotten that number and over that number would be
over the requirements to use the Suite available.
Once
this event is implemented there will be further actions considered for
the next event after evaluating this event for next steps.
I
would like to have all of your participation for this GVP issue
especially since Laverne has reached out to National OFA and National
has referred us to take this event on for MD/DC State jurisdiction. I
am asking you to help make this a great event as a MD/DC Team for this
very important issue.
If you can attend, try to bring
someone else with you to help out. Let's show what MD/DC can do when
National OFA calls on us to make a difference with such important issue
that Americans Care about.
I am expecting to have a
show of hands from Maryland and DC Chapters to give Laverne a count of
who will attend by Wednesday as well as what volunteers will do to make
the event successful that she has asked of OFA.
I am
counting on your support. I still have laryngitis but not as bad. At
least you can hear me talk now but I still have to be careful with it or
I can lose my voice again.
I am asking all to
please be specific about what you or all volunteers can do out of the
asks Laverne mentioned. I am sure there might be somethings she forgot
to mention but I am sure our OFA Volunteer Leaders can deal with it.
Our DC Chapter Lead, Odette McDonald and One
of our OFA State Special Projects Leaders, Rob Yochem, will help me
coordinate this effort. Odette can be reached on sodettemcdonald@gmail or 202-870-7355 and Rob can be reached on ryo...@gmail.com or
410-929-0762. All information on volunteering should be sent to me so
that I can communicate this to Laverne by Wednesday. After I receive
this information from you and pass on to Laverne, Odette and Rob will start
coordinating from this point with all Volunteer Leaders and Laverne to
make certain that everyone knows exactly what to do during the event
based on what you have volunteered to do.
I thank
you all very much for your support and look forward to hearing from you
all. We are looking to try and get at least 15 people if not more to
attend. OFA National and I am counting on you because we can't make this event a success by ourselves. We are all in this together.
Thanks so much again.
Mildred Owens
OFA MD/DC State Director

Jennifer,
Good afternoon. I received
your Recap email on last nights conference call event. As you can see,
the email was sent from you to you. Nevertheless, we have transferred
all correspondence from Organizing for Action to our social action
group. Therefore, please send all further emails and contact information
to:
judicialcorrect...@hotmail.com.
I'm
a minority business woman in the District of Columbia. A generational
native Washingtonian; and, a long time social activist in the District. I have owned and managed a small commercial real estate group here for the past 15 years.
I
was involved in President Obama's two term re-election campaigns. And,
remain the coordinator of The Campaign for Judicial Correctness under
the Law. The campaign was formed in 2005. It's goal was to create
awareness and forge accountability for correct judicial practices in our
D.C. Superior Court. We were able to get a couple of judges removed.
And, way in on a more selective judicial process.
I
hold a Master's Degree in Legislative Affairs. And, intend this Spring
to add a Jurist Doctorate to that credential. So that, while primarily
having focused on a real estate practice. l tend to allow myself to become involved in social issue that I feel, merit my involvement and concern.
As discussed, we will scheduled the conference room at our downtown "K" St. N.W. office for the Nov. 7th, 2015
community forum on gun violence prevention. We will connect with all
eight District of Columbia Ward constituent service offices, to get
people to attend. And, then hold their own forums in their neighborhoods
and communities.
In closing, please
forward your local chapter contact information to us as requested. As we
would like to have their organizing assistance, with this event. And,
intend to reach out to other local grassroots organizations for the
event as well.
I found last nights conference
call most effective, and well conducted. I was extremely inspired by the
other call in organizers; their comments; commitment and, concerns.
Thanks so much for reaching out to us, for this most important need to organize effort.
Sincerely,
Laverne A. Jordan, Coordinator
