Hello,

As some of you may already be aware, Open.Michigan has built and piloted a badge system to acknowledge, applaud and showcase the growing community of sharing at U-M. The pilot was conducted over two weeks in February, 2012, with the goals of gaining a better understanding of the usability of the system, to see if there were any particular problem areas that should be addressed, and to see if the O.M. community had any reservations about badges. 16 U-M affiliated O.M. community members responded, and the following insights were gained:
  • Pilot group would like to receive more badges from Open.Michigan
  • Pilot group understood the purpose of badges
  • Pilot participants are interested in sharing their badges
  • Most participants were interested in posting their badges on their own sites, likely because of the higher tech proficiency of the survey respondents.
Additionally, we learned that the following areas could be improved:
  • Ability to find badge assessment criteria
  • Ability to find other badges you could earn
  • Badge graphics
  • Badge Community Page
  • Link between badge and why person earned the badge

We're very thankful for this feedback, and we're excited to continue to improve our badging system. You can view the full results of the pilot here: https://docs.google.com/present/view?id=dv9bcw5_76c4ksgxdf and learn more about the badging process on our wiki: https://open.umich.edu/wiki/Badges
