Greetings All:

I need your help.  Consider it my 39th birthday present - today is my b-day ;)

I'm building slides for a keynote titled: "The Obviousness of Open Policy"

Can you help me with answers to these questions?  Data + source would be great!
  • How much money does the US Federal Government release in grants each year?  Heather? $60-80B?

  • How much does US higher ed and US K-12 spend on textbooks / year?  Nicole? $10B K-12 and $10B higher ed?

  • Does Brazil spend $3B reals / year on education?  Carolina?

  • What I really need is numbers on other countries?
    • How much is spent on education / year?
    • How much is spent on textbooks / year?
    • How much is spent on government research grants / year?
I'm trying to make the point that there is a LOT of public money currently spent on education globally.
