Three things.

1) Google people will be at the event below and both of our organizations could use some Google love.  Plus, if GOOG hasn't decided where fiber should go we can take picket signs. :)

2a) For the OEMad folks, MadLUG still needs two people for Lightning talks on April 4th.  Even if a talk isn't specifically related to Linux and is related to something that could be on Linux (ruby, python, perl, whatever), we'd really like to fill the last two spots.

2b) To MadLUG-SC folks, if you aren't on the OEMad list, might be a good thing to join.  It's pretty low traffic.  We're contemplating having an event this summer since there will be some folks involved with OE from afar in Madison this summer.  There's also OEMad-Tech, which covers all things FLOSS and not just Linux, which might be an even better list to join.

3) My father (well, really another professor my father knows) is working on a Linux-based Music textbook.  This is a really interesting idea.  The idea is essentially that a thumb drive or set of CDs will have all the software and text materials needed to teach Music History, Theory and Production courses.  I don't know that much about Wikiversity and things of that nature, but it seems as though those sorts of materials would be perfect for that. If you'd be interested in helping with this project, I can get you contact info.  The Linux/software side of things should be cake, it's the other materials that will be needed.  There should also be plenty of libre music on the web (there's tons on Wikipedia).  A CC -NC license should be ok since it will be used for educational purposes.  If you aren't interested but know someone that would be or can point to resources, that would be great.  For any of you involved in P2PU, this might be great course material for them as well.  I'm going to poke around on Wikiversity a bit...next weekend(?) (so much to do!).

The Madison SMC will be having their next meeting on March 23rd at
AmFam on the east side of Madison. Apparently Google employees will be
present for this one, so it might be a great opportunity for all.

Good morning!

Just wanted to send a note to thank everyone for attending the Social
Media Club Kick-off Event last month at Brocach. It was such a great
night of networking and fun, and we're so glad you could be a part of
it.

As you may already know, we have an event scheduled for next Tuesday,
March 23, from 6-7:30PM on the campus of American Family Insurance. We
will be gathering in the Wittmer Auditorium at American Family
Insurance for a discussion focused on the effective use and promotion
of video via social media. This will be a great forum, whether you
currently have a successful YouTube channel or would like to get some
helpful steps to make a video viral. AmFam's Troy Janish will share
the DOs and DON'Ts of a successful video campaign, and provide insight
into some of the things his team is busy working on in the area of
social video. This is an insider's view into a very successful
campaign - you don't want to miss it!

We invite all interested to submit a video for critique as part of the
March discussion. To do so, send your URL by March 19 to Mark Anderson
at mand...@amfam.com.

No video session would be complete without popcorn and beverages,
which will be provided to all attendees by American Family Insurance.
In addition, guests will have the chance to win raffles, prizes and
swag -- a Hollywood-esque party right here in Madison!

Parking is available for all attendees.

Hope to see you all there!
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

The 2010 Board of the Social Media Club of Madison
