Subject: Science Writing Workshop
My name is Erick García García. I’m Co-director of Casa d’Estudis El Pont, a private education center located in the city of Villajoyosa, in Spain.
In October 2015, after signing a collaboration agreement with The Spanish Federation of Biotechnologists (FEBiotec), we launched a Science Writing education program for Ibero-America, with the objective of improving written communication skills in graduate and postgraduate students of the Life Sciences.
We have just completed the third edition of our workshop "How to write a Scientific Paper in the English Language?" gathering students from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador, among other countries, in our Virtual Campus. We have combined eLecta Live’s virtual classroom software, and Edmodo Education Network to create an on-line teaching platform that allows us to project our educational activities worldwide.
In October 4th 2016 we will be launching our International Science Writing Education Program, aimed at senior undergraduate students, Master's and Ph.D. students, and young researchers. The workshop "How to write a Life Sciences Research paper" will be the first part of this international project.
The workshop is taught entirely in English. It covers a bit of grammar (applied to the scientific text), paper content and organization, and a series of section-by-section practical narrative strategies to generate texts written in English that are simple and clear, and that possess internal coherence and cohesion.
This workshop is composed of 16 recorded lessons (each 60-90 minutes long), 16 practical sessions taught in real-time in our Virtual Classroom, 16 on-line evaluation test for students to monitor their own progress, and the revision and commenting of a short research, or review, paper that students have to develop during the course and submit at the end of the workshop. The duration of the workshop is three months.
Students who successfully complete the workshop receive a transcript of their grades and a certificate of participation of 40 lective hours, issued by the The Spanish Federation of Biotechnologists (FEBiotec). The cost of the workshop is 125 €, and it includes the certificate of participation.
We hope you would be interested in passing this information along to the members of ODYSUS.
Attached you will find a file containing detailed information about the workshop "How to write a Life Sciences Research paper" (also accessible following the links embedded in this e-mail.), and also another file containing my detailed CV.
