BRUCE CAMPBELL AND ROBERT FALKNER

Sustainability Science Centre invites you to two sustainability lectures, the first one with Bruce Campbell, Director of the CGIAR Research Programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) on 22 September 2017, and the second one with Robert Falkner, Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science on 4 October 2017.

What is needed to transform agriculture and food systems in the face of climate change?

This lecture will address how something is wrong with the global food system when nearly one billion people go hungry and more than one billion over-consume; and how agriculture is the major driver of global environmental change.

Dr Bruce Campbell has degrees in Ecology from Cape Town (B.Sc.  Hons.), Minnesota (M.Sc.) and Utrecht (Ph.D.), but has increasingly moved into inter-disciplinary work, championing new approaches to doing applied research on natural resource management. He operates out of the CCAFS office at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Katherine Richardson, Professor in Biological Oceanography, Leader of Sustainability Science Centre, will moderate the talk.

WHEN: 22 September 2017, 14:30-15:30

WHERE: Aud - A2-70.03, Thorvaldsensvej 40, 2000 Frederiksberg

American exceptionalism, great power responsibility and global sustainability

This lecture explores the legacy of American exceptionalism in global environmental governance and the threat it poses to the Paris Agreement and global sustainability politics more generally.

Robert Falkner is the Research Director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and an Associate Professor of International Relations at LSE. His research focuses on global environmental politics and international political economy, with a particular focus on climate policy and the role of business in international relations.

Jens Villiam Hoff, Professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, will moderate the talk.

WHEN: 4 October 2017, 15:00-16:15

WHERE: CSS 35.01.05, Øster Farimagsgade 5 (entrance at Gammeltoftsgade 19), 1353 København K
