What Greenland can do for the tropical countries

SUSTAINABILITY LECTURE WITH MINIK ROSING

What Greenland can do for the tropical countries

This is a gentle reminder that we are kicking off the new season of Sustainability Lectures on Thursday, 12 April at 15:00 - and you can still sign up!

Sustainability Science Centre is proud to present one of our very own researchers, Minik Rosing, Professor of Geology at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, University of Copenhagen. His research spans themes ranging from the consequences of the presence of life for planet Earth to the relations between arts and sciences. In this lecture, he will discuss his cross-disciplinary research project, focusing on the possible use of a special type of Greenlandic mud to answer some pressing questions:

  • How do we feed a growing world population?
  • Can we actively capture CO2 from the atmosphere and store it in the ground?
  • Can the vast Greenlandic Ice Sheet promote growth of crops in the tropics?
  • Would it be environmentally responsible - or even a remotely good idea - to transport mud from one end of the world to the other?
  • Can Greenland create economic growth by “doing good” on the global stage?

The lecture will take place in AUD 1, H.C. Ørsted Instituttet, Universitetsparken 5, 2100 København Ø. Admission is free of charge.

Furthermore, we will be welcoming Dave Goulson on 25 April, to talk about saving bumblebees.
