spam bots

Dear All:

Our group website was recently attacked by spam bots and I just
discovered it this morning. Because of our open invitation policy,
they were able to gain membership and change all the links to adult
web sites. So, I spent about three hours this morning trying to
repair the damage. My hope is that everything is now clean and that I
have several of the correct links re-established. However, there are
several links (e.g. Niveditha's thesis) that I could not reconnect.
Please, when you have time, have a look and reconnect any links that
you control and have been removed.

To hopefully prevent this from occurring in the future, now new
members must either be explicitly invited or apply through the group
web site at which point I will approve or deny the request based on a
statement of interest in ODT. The exact same attack just happened to
our FDS web page here at NIST.

I apologize for any problems this has caused.

I'm sorry to hear that the spammers put you through all this hassle. I think it's good to have some control over membership so we'll feel comfortable sharing things.
