Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows if ODSP will cover Naturopathic medicine and clinic visits (or any part of the cost)?

Btw, I found out about The Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic in Toronto on TV recently.  They give an apparently good discount for those of us on ODSP.  I called the other day and they are sending me an application because otherwise the assessment would be $65.00.  I don't yet know what it will be once I've filled out and returned the form.

Also, they apparently have satellite clinics.

Here is a link to the website for the RSNC:  http://ccnm.edu/?q=robert_schad_naturopathic_clinic  .  There is also a "contact us" link where you can send them an email if a call is long distance for you.  That way you can find out if there are any satellite clinics within your reach.

odsp doesn't cover naturopathic medicine.
There are some Chinese health care practices that have recently been
added to OHIP.
My doctor is somewhat knowledgable and says by law, he can answer my
questions about herbal remedies,
but he cannot suggest or recommend them.

I have a nice story, if you care to read...one of by babies was born
with infantile asthma. My husbands best friend asked him to give him a
drive to see a psychic. When he got home he told me the strangest
thing...said he'd waited in the living room for about half an hour
while his friend had his reading done...the psychic walked with them
to the car, and shook hands with my husband, and said, congratulations
on the birth of your son, he has fluid on the lungs, tell your wife to
boil and onion with the skin on it for twenty minutes, sweeten the
broth with brown sugar and give him a couple of table spoons every few
hours...my husband said he got mad at his friend for wasting his time
and money gossiping about him to a psychic...but his friend insisted
he had not said a thing about it....so I asked my doctor and he
confirmed that yes, there's some chemical in the skin of an onion that
does help clear the lungs of fluid and mucus but you have to be
careful because it can actually burn the skin of your lips and
throat...so dilute it with sterile water...and it worked!

Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know where I would be able to find
out what's been added to OHIP?

Also, what a wonderful story about the onion skin and your baby! One of my
daughters was hearing impaired as a baby/toddler and the doctors didn't know
why or what to do besides hearing aids and genetic testing (she's a twin).
So I passed on the genetic testing and she wore hearing aids for 2 years
from age 2 to age 4. When they were 3 years old, I had started going to a
chiropractor for my own back issues (this was when I was working and could -
sort of - afford it). He suggested I bring the girls in to have an exam
when I told him about my daughter's hearing problems. He started giving
them adjustments as well and 3 months later, when my daughter's hearing was
tested again she had her full hearing and has never needed hearing aids
again. In fact, sometimes she hears too much! LOL!

Its amazing what complimentary medicine can do!

I had an experience just like yours with one of my boys. He had
chronic ear infections and developed an allergy to penicillin. The
doctor said if he got another infection he'd need to have drainage
tubes put in.
I took him to a homeopathic/chiropractor who assessed that he'd over
developed jaw muscles from being on the bottle to long and as such his
ear wax couldn't drain. She did a simple adjustment, rather like
tickling him under the chin and behind the ears, and he never had
another infection. Coincidentally, when we got home he left his bottle
in his stroller and a squirrel stole it. I didn't have the money to
replace it 'cause I had to pay the chiropractor :-).

That is very interesting as my sister's son was on a bottle until he
was 4 and had chronic ear infections from about 6 months on. At 9yrs
his tonsils were removed, believed to be the cause. Anyway, by 9 he
had a 15% permanent hearing loss in one ear.

Wow! Out of curiosity, how old was your son at that point? My girls were
on sippy cups somewhere between 13 and 18 months (I can't believe I can't
remember how old they were!). However, they both had to have tubes in their
ears at around 2 years as well. I understand they don't do the tubes so
much anymore, if at all.

My chiropractor told the girls he was popping corn when he gave them
adjustments. They loved it!
