Is their any on here who knows about ODSP but in B.C. I know it won't
be the same name but when I get to B.C. I need to get in contact with
them so I can go through the prosses in B.C. I wish you could just
turn over the stuff you already have but no I have to go through the
hole prosses all over again :(

I would be very worried that BC will accept your disability, just because you were accepted in Ontario isno guarantee that BC will accept you.

You Can't set anything up ahead of time, you need to actually be
living in BC for a certain period of time before applying for their
disability program. They will not let you apply while you are still
living in ontario.

Many of us wish that they would allow us to apply to a different
province and have everything set up for when we go, but they do not
under any circumstances allow anyone to make a move without first
cancelling ODSP and then live in the other province for a while and
then apply there. And as soon as you are moved, you are cut right off
ODSP, while you are still not on disability in the other province no
transition period, which means you would be stuck for several months.
You also cannot transfer RGI housing from province to province or even
from county to county. This makes it almost impossible for anyone to
make a move to a different province for any reason.

Hi,

I urge you to double check the rules for getting the disability pension, or even welfare, in BC.

I've been looking into moving to another province as well and I discovered, much to my horror, that other provinces can refuse to accept, or provide funds to, a social assistance recipient from another province. Most provinces now require us to be financially sponsored by someone for a full 6 months before we can apply for their social assistance programs.

Each province can set their own rules for this so it is important to enquire into waht rules BC has set.

Here's the link for disability in BC:

Note that their rates are considerably lower than Ontario - they only give $375 for shelter for a single person and their special diet is a lot less conditions than ours, plus the monies are not high. Much as I would love to move to BC, it's going to have to  wait until I am off ODSP and on Old Age Pensions or I get an inheritance or  I win the lottery, whichever comes first.

Technically it really depends on why you are moving & where you are
moving from & to; whether it has to be permanent, etc. Like it has
already been said already different provinces have different rules/
policies. If you are moving for medical treatment then things are
easier/better/simpler, for example I required medical treatment that
wasn't covered by O.H.I.P. but was covered by R.A.M.Q. (Quebec ohip),
so my workers approved me to officially move to Montreal for a year
which meant giving up my O.H.I.P. so I could be accepted onto R.A.M.Q.
& have the treatment I needed; all the while I remained on O.D.S.P. &
they kept paying my rent for my residence in Ontario & the rent of my
apartment in Montreal (cheaper to rent an apartment then a hotel/motel
or rooming facility). They also paid my transit costs back & forth,
all my surgical supplies & maintained my drug/dental coverage.

I have to give credit where credit is due, the workers bent over
backwards to make sure I could get the treatment I needed without it
effecting my assistance or bankrupting me. So basically everyone's
situation is different, the best archive is to read the rules & seek
legal advice.
