What happens when you move to another province and are on ODSP? Is it
something that can just be transferred or do you have to start all
over with applying for that province's form of dissability assistance?
How long would it take on average to do what needed to be done?
I'm wondering about going from Ontario to British Columbia for family
reasons.

I think this has been discussed before but it was a long time ago....anywhooooo

No, it does not transfer

You would have to start over

You have to have a doc examine you from the relocated province (you cannot have the doc from ontario's paperwork submitted)

If you are on ODSP and are looking at moving I would suggest not leaving the province.  Its hard enough to get on ODSP, never mind having to start all over again.

I wouldnt do it.....But having said that if I was certain that I just had to get out of Ontario...I would move to newfoundland.   Seriously, because they do not have a disability program but once it is established that you have a disability you get increased funding and do not have to do the job searches and whatnot.  Thats just what Ive heard I am not certain.  A little research goes a long way :)

Have fun. Once you leave this Province you are on your own w/o any help and supports from ODSP.

And yes you have to start from Scratch, if, you are allowed on the new Province's welfare roll. Each Province is different, so do your research.

Heck, the next best thing to an out of province experience is to move to Kenora, ON. Right next door to Winnipeg Manitoba.

Great fishing in Kenora area. But do bring the long johns, just in case.

Take care,
Frank.

You start all over. Your ODSP ends as soon as you cease to reside in
Ontario. Your having been on ODSP will have NO BEARING on whether
another province will deem you qualified for THEIR disability support
system. Times to a decision will vary with each province.

(This is another reason why obtaining CPP-D is a good idea.)

If you move out of Ontario you are not eligible for odsp.
The Ontario Disability Support Program is only available in Ontario.
You'd have to apply for their specific social assistance program, if
they have one.
This doesn't pertain to CPP-D, though you'd have to inform them of
your address change.

I've heard that if a person relocates to another province and is on CPP-D
it makes it much easier to acquire the disability pension of that new province.
     Has anyone ever heard this?

my understanding is that cpp is portable anywhere in canada ( and even
out of the country for at least 6 months.)

No. It's just you and your CPP-D. You'll still have to lineup and register, IF, they accept you. They may not like "outsiders" trying to ride their "social gravy train."

Take care,
Frank.

Move to Kenora, huh. I'm only an hour away with great fishing as well
and not so rocky.

Cool, got an extra room to spare for the summer?

Take care,
Frank.
