what wood be a condation to apply for odsp .i have post traumantic strees
disorder .iam getting all set up to see a psychiatric .i also just got a
social worker to help me . so i can have someone to talk to till i get
refered to the psychiatric .alot of things happened to me as a kid . and i
started getting anxiety iam on pills .iam not working at the moment or
iam not on welfare or odsp .but i do have fear going out .can anyboby help
me out here . jam

Hi! Sounds like you are already on the right track for applying for
ODSP. Your social worker is a good person to discuss how to get on
ODSP, etc.

(Your worker ought to be somewhat familiar with the whole process of
applying.)

Your psychiatrist is also another good person to talk to about ODSP.

When you do start filling out the forms for ODSP you'll most likely
need to have your psychiatrist write a letter and also write some info
regarding your condition, in the forms.

I am on ODSP for PTSD. When I applied several years ago, I had to get
letters from different doctors that I was seeing and also my family
doctor was a wonderful help.

I don't know what it's like now, because I don't know anyone 1st hand
that's just gotten on to ODSP, but I would say in general, be ready for
a bit of wait once you've sent out all your letters and forms to ODSP.

They tend to take time before they let you know their final answer!

Don't get discouraged if you get a letter back saying that they need
more info or they haven't made a decision about your case, yet.

It took close to a year of dealing with ODSP until I was finally
approved.

You may not even have to wait that long, now, hopefully.

Acceptance on ODSP is not based on what disability you have, but

is based on how that disability impacts on your ability to care for

yourself, carry on in the community or work.  PTSD is a medical

condition that can potentially qualify based on how badly it affects you.

If they do deny your application, appeal it. If they deny that too,
appeal it. Don't give up on the process. A majority of applicatants
give up too early (there's actually an article on this, but you'll have
to Google for it as I can't remember where I read it). One other small
note. The more information the doctors provide, the better. If your
application is sparse and I'm referring to the areas where the doctor
writes descriptions, there is more chance the application will be
denied. This may not be the same for all cases, but it's what I've
learned over the years.

thank you right now i have post traumatic stress disorder . my doctors got
me on pills novo lorazem . i get up in the mornings and iam shakie and dont
fill like iam in my body .i fill spaced out .i take the pill and iy works
but then i fill high but i do then start to fill normally agian .iam not
going to go inrto detail of what happened to me as a kid .but i was hurt by
4 adult at 9 years old .i thought i could forget it all .but the anxiety
keeps comming back ,sometimes i get bad thought . so thats why iam on the
pills .i want to apply fro odsp . but i cant take pills and go find a job or
school . the pills keep me filling good with no trobles . how could i learn
on pills or work .iam getting set up with a psychiatric soon .what is wrong
with me can that get me on odsp .i will get a menacail done by the psychtric

glenn is that a health problem to get on odsp. i have post traumatic stress
disorder . my familt doctor just put me on med for my prombles .i sakie in
the morning . then i take my pill .but my pills make me all drozie all day
.i cant find work like that .i have a socail worker for a crisis center to
help me out . till i get a psychiatric . does anyboby no if this is one of
the medacil con .thanks jam

Hi Jamie,

With PTSD, get the doctor who prescribes the drug to complete your

health status report and add a letter concerning your diagnosis; also,

if you seeing a counsellor or a psychiatrist, get a letter from them as

well, which would be a good start.  I have a number of health conditions,

which also includes PTSD; I got others with PTSD on ODSP in the past.
