NO!

What you get is a TTC Metropass for the volunteer work.

Take care,
Frank.

I volunteer all the time and ODSP doesn't give me anything for it.
They don't seem to care unless it's worth money - then they want to know about it.

There are two different possible $100 benefits that might be referred
to here.
1) the Work Related Benefit: $100 is added to your ODSP cheque if
you have Earnings from a job or net positive income of at least $100
from self-employment. This is a mandatory benefit in the law--ie
everyone in the province who has earnings, gets this money.
2) There is no actual right to any volunteer allowance under the ODSP
law. However, in Toronto, and maybe in a few other places but not
many, ODSP recipients who choose to do volunteer work can get $100 for
transporation from the OW office. This is done through "voluntary
participation" in the Ontario Works Community Participation program.
However, Toronto has recently changed its policy about this. Any ODSP
recipient who is applying for this transporation allowance for the
first time, will only get it for 6 months, which can be extended for
another five months. The volunteer work is supposed to be part of an
employment plan, leading to being ready for a paid job. All the ODSP
recipients who have already been getting this $100 for some time, will
not be cut off but can continue getting renewals.

Not bad. I could go for a bus pass here in Barrie. But where I volunteer at isn't very far from here - at my daughter's school.

Complain online here: ODSP online.

If you volunteer all the time they should be giving you transportation money for a metropass.

Take care,
Frank.

Need to tell it is at your daughter's school and tell them of any other volunteer stuff you do. Emphasis the volunteering.

Take care,
Frank.

I think you have to put the information in writing like a letter.  I know that where I am ODSP seems to respond much better when I write them a letter, and then at the bottom of the letter I  make sure that I tell them that if I do not get an appropriate response in an appropriate amount of time I will take my documents and letter to the appropriate advocacy agency.  Also sometimes it helps to quote the legislation in your letter....ie according to section blah blah of the blah blah I am entitled to blah blah......like that....hope that helps

I don't live in Toronto.
And, where I volunteer is within walking distance.

If you are volunteering and wish to get the $100, you should get the
agency you are volunteering for, to write a letter confirming that you
are volunteering, and giving a few details of what you are doing, for
how many hours a month etc. And then submit the letter to ODSP.
Normally thats what they need to start issuing the $100.

Eleu,
This is ONLY for families with children, or single parents with children.
This does NOT affect single disabled individuals or couples without
children.  As of July 1, 2008, ODSP cheques will be reduced by
approximately 30% of the 'basic needs' portion.  Your cheque will
be reduced by more if you have more than one child under 18.

You will no longer get winter clothing allowance or back-to-school
allowance.  Your cheque reduction and giving up of the back-to-
school/winter clothing is at least in part the source of the funds
for the new Ontario Child Benefit, which will start at approx. $50/
child per month.  For every dollar your family has over $20,000 a
year (including ODSP, earnings, etc.) your OCB will be cut back
by 8 per cent, but you will still have the reduced ODSP amounts.

Guess which ODSP recipients get more than $20,000 a year?
Those paying market rents (which average 73% of one's total
monthly income), those with more than one child, those with
family members receiving extras, such as "special diet", "medical
travel", "diabetes supplies", etc. This is ALL income ... regardless
of the fact you spend 73% of your cheque on housing.

With grocery costs promising to rise sharply by summer (which
some are saying will be in the double digit increase range),
increased price of gas (while that doesn't affect most of us
because who can afford to drive ... but it does affect the cost
of heating your home and some transported goods), double
digit hydro/electricity costs, etc. we will actually LOSE money.

They promise a transitional child benefit to fill the "gap", but I don't
trust the government as far as I can throw them.  My husband is
trying hard to find work so our family can be completely free of this
circus as soon as possible.  I don't need legislated poverty and
enforced destitution to add to my already high level of stress,
when I am already working 12 - 14 hours a day and losing 50%
of my net income just so he can stay on ODSP.  No way!!!
