Is anyone aware if such benefits are available from ODSP? My wife is on CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis). It requires 4 exchanges per day. She is also recovering at home after 6 months in a hospital. She has numerous ailments requiring 24/7 care. I had been caring for her for the last 3 months since she had been home. We have home care come in for a hour and a half in the morning and a hour at night 3 days a week. CCAC could only supply a nurse for one visit per day for dialysis exchange and only Monday to Thursday. I recently tried going back to work but found it too taxing and went on a personal leave of absence. I talked to a social worker at the hospital and she suggested I talk to ODSP, tell them of my situation and if they needed any forms signed my wifes nephrologist would sign. When I phoned our caseworker she said there was no such thing. Is there or isnt there?That is what I need to know.

Jake,
ODSP does not provide caregiver benefits.  The only thing they would do
in this circumstances is not force you, as the spouse to work, because you
are providing direct personal care to your wife.

The only thing that you might apply for is unemployment insurance; they might
have a program that will cover you while you are off work, but then again, it
would be pointless, as EI will be deducted dollar for dollar off your wife's ODSP.

This is the same circumstance of a friend of mine in Toronto is going through;
he is seriously ill but still has a chance and is collecting EI sick benefits, as he
had to take time off work to recover before his LTD kicks in.  She is on ODSP
and because she is living with him AND looking after him, HIS EI benefits get
taken off of her cheque dollar for dollar.  Make any sense?

I think the CCAC is pretty skimpy on their home care provision in my books.
Your wife needs a LOT more home care than she is getting.   Is this something
that can be reviewed with her nephrologist?
