I buy my milk across the street at Shoppers. Recently the milk has
turned sour within a few days. I menntioned this to one of the
cashiers and she said other people have also complained and that
Neilson was investigating the problem. I buy the 2%. Too bad as the
other brands are much more expensive. To give Shoppers credit if you
have a problem they will refund you your money.

I buy the "tru filter" milk or whatever it's called, it's a bit more expensive but the due date is usually further away than the regular milk and therefore I don't waste it like I do with Neilson or Beatrice. Buying in 4 litre bags is not an option for me as I don't like it after it's been frozen so I buy in 2 litre cartons. With the Neilson or Beatrice, I was throwing away sometimes up to half the carton but with this tru filter I rarely throw any of it out.

I don't like Neilson milk, I don't know
what it is, it makes no sense, as a cow
is a cow right? But I find it smells weird
and tastes off. Just me of course. Maybe
they are fudging with the best before dates
or something.

It's likely who is stocking it. They're leaving it out too long.
Well the guy only makes $10.25 an hour so what does he care huh?

When I went across yesterday all the bags were gone. I like the
Lactancia. But a lot more expensive. Who makes tru-filterr?

Why was the part about God added? Did I miss something?

I realized a while ago that I was eating way too much dairy, I
prefer to get cheese and yoghurt when I get my dairy now - so I drink
almond milk and it *never* goes bad. The other thing with yoghurt,
quite a few people I know on meds take yoghurt as their prefered food
with pills- barely anything on the market anymore is actually
yoghurt, its dead pasteurized culture with the fat skimmed out added
to thickeners, milk fat and all the flavoring and artificial
sweeteners to the point that it really isn't dairy anymore. I cook
with a fair bit of yoghurt since I eat indian food quite a bit, and
for all the "probiotic" crap they let on, you can get more useful
probiotics leaving a slice of apple out until it goes brown and eat
it. I have digestive problems and I take a product called HMF forte
from time to time, my meds seem to kill my gut flora and fauna -
although recent studies show that exposure to a geneticly similar
person's fecal bacteria is the best indicator of healthy gut flora.
Its gross, but in our hermetically sealed industrial cleaner sort of
life, and with families living apart its funny because nobody would
think of eating a family member's poop, but the tiny amounts in the
air or picked up in travels are crucial to resisting diseases and
being able to effectively digest food.

I explained it in a subsequent post marked "apology" - it's a signature line I use for a debate group and is put there automatically by my email program. I forgot to delete it before hitting send.

I've had problems with the Tru Filter and Lactancia, in fact it got so
bad I went back to "regular" milk and have ended up throwing out a lot
less milk buying "regular" then the extra expensive. I had been buying
the fine filtered milk because I thought I would save money but to no
avail. I too have to wonder about who's stocking the milk, Shoppers
doesn't have a full fridge for their milk just a counter top type
thing and I can't tell you how many times I've seen whole trolleys of
milk sitting out on the floor with no stock person around.

I never buy 4L milk until I see the expiry date first. If it is
expiring less than a week or a week plus few days. I walk away without
buying it. I always check the expiry date, no matter what I am buying.
If it is 2 weeks plus or more, I buy it. When I get home, I put the
one bag in the pitcher and freeze the other two 1L bags in the
freezer. I have been doing that for years and never ever spoils on me.
Sure the frozen milk looks yellow when you take it out to thaw on the
dish drain, but the color yellow never stays long. It turns to white
in few hours. The taste is always the same. I dont' buy at Shoppers.
It is too dear. They want $5.49 for 4L bag of milk. It is because this
particular Shopper's don't have grocery line. I get my milk at Mac's
Milk for $4.19 and it is a short distance from where I live. I can't
afford to buy expensive brand of other types of milk. I buy half and
half for my tea.

Gosh, my Shoppers charges $3.99. A LOT cheaper than Loblaws. I guess
all Shoppers are not the same. It is what I believe a 'loss leader'.
They get you into the store, you buy the milk but also buy more
expensive items (I do not). But my Shoppers has everything -
cosmetics, supplies for various conditions, a grocery section, eggs
(still a good deal at 2.99 for a dozen and on sale for less), fruits
and veggies (try the small potatoes - boil a few of these with say
spaghetti and that is - as my neighbour used to say - 'a good feed''
and it is pretty decent

Yes, Shopper's milk is cheaper in other Shopper's elsewhere in London,
but it is too far for me to get there by bus. By the time I get off
the bus, I still have to walk a bit more ways to get to Shoppers to
get what I want and then back again to the bus shelter. It is not
worthwhile for me to do this. There are about half a dozen or more out
of about 18 Shopper's Drug Mart that carry grocery line here in
London.

I just recently found that I have arthritis in my feet, due to the
latest Cat Scan couple weeks ago. No wonder my feet hurt to walk and
my knees too. I am in my late 40's.

Loblaws, Superstore, No Frills, Price Choppers, Walmarts and Food
Basics charged $4.19 the same price as Mac's Milk does. I don't buy
milk at Valumart because they charge more than $4.19, same for Metro,
too.

You say you pay Eggs at $2.99 is not so cheap. I just got a dozen for
$2.19 at Valumart today. You must buy the Omega eggs or whatever they
are called.

I heard that Shoppers on Dundas Street in London, the closest where I
go for my prescriptions is either building or moving next year and
that they are going to add a grocery line. I hope it does, so I can
get milk there and other stuff and get points on my card. I have
noticed the expiry date on the milk they sell at Shoppers at $5.79 (I
did say $5.49 in one of my posts, I was mistaken when I see the price
today at their store) is under a week. I don't buy it. That must mean
they have too much stock of milk in their cooler and not selling fast.

The cheapest I can find milk 4L is at Shoppers or Zellers. One time I
bought milk there that was expiring in 2 days (didn't check), and they
let me replace it.

I find milk sometimes tastes slightly different from week to week.
Maybe it's a differen't person at the controls for this batch compared
to that batch. Anyway, it doesn't bother me.

I bought Sealtest at a Price Chopper recently. The individual bags
were labelled, with one different than the other two. Two of them
tasted strange, and I didn't drink them. I think the store mixed them
up and rebagged them. I've also seen long-expired milk sold there, so
now I always check the date, and try for something at the back since
I'm the only one to drink it by the date.

About Tru-Taste milk, I actually find it to go bad sooner if it's
taken out of the fridge. Maybe it lasts longer when chilled, but if
you take it out, it loses shelf life more quickly. In any case, I
think the claimed benefits of it are nonsense. I like regular 1%
best, and luckily it's cheaper!

I noticed that Canadian Tire Stores sell milk and bread at the nearly
cheapest price = $3.99 1% or 2%. They have enough buyers to almost say
the milk will the be the freshest.
Another thought while I'm here, the reason milk goes off so easily from
some stores is how fast they get it on the shelf, before it warms up.
That is what causes the milk to sour, it's stored at (whatever degrees)
and more it gets warmer and cooler.. the faster it goes sour.( same as
the more the 'fridge is opened and closed the faster it goes off)
Hope that makes sense to some.....LOL

That is what I do and have been doing that for years. I check the
expiry date on the front and then look at the back. If the front has
expiry date that is less than the one at the back, I would buy the one
at the back.

It is same thing at grocery stores. They put the oldest cans, boxes,
bags, etc at the front and put the new ones at the back. I remember my
aunt working at Becker's Milk in the 1970's. I was helping her and she
was the one who told me the management requires new stuff at the back
and move the old stuff up to the front.

I do this for things like Milk and bagged salad that I have trouble
finishing on time. But I do take the one on the front if I know I
will eat it quickly. They do need to sell that stuff or it'll be
wasted.

As for letting milk heat up.. There are times when I'll have the milk
out for an hour, the same bag more than once and it stays fine until
after the expiry. It's only the fine-filtered ones that go bad when
left warm in my experience. Maybe they take out preservatives, which
is a plus for some people.
