I am wondering money wise what happens when a disabled child, still
living at home turns 18, with regards to ODSP. (I know you can apply
6 months before the date).

I can find the calculations/break down, for a couple (I don't think
that applies), but can't seem to find the formula for a parent and
child both disabled on ODSP.

I'm also wondering if she will get a cheque, or it will all come on my
cheque.

any assistance would be appriciated.

Hi, welcome to the world of an adult child.  I too have a son now 17 but turning 18 very very soon.  This is how it was explained to me, because he has been on Hanicapped Childrens Benefit, now know as ACSD since he was 7 he has grandfathered on to the ODSP system.  So he will be on ODSP.

I have two options.  I can a.

have him as a room and board situation where odsp will take him off my cheque as a dependant and I will get 325 dollars a month from him to pay for his room and board.  odsp will not take any money from my cheque for that.

option b

i can split my rent with him by adult count.  This means that they would say well theres my husband, me and my adult child, then I have a younger son.  The three adults would split the rent 3 ways, so my son would pay a portion, and my husband and I would pay our portion.  Which in turn would affect the amount of shelter costs I get.

Heres my advice to you.  If your son is going to continue to live at home, and he is working, his income will not count as household income, but they will deduct a portion from your cheque for rent or room and board.  Go with the room and board situation.  Although he will no longer be on your check he will be giving you 325 dollars per month which is the max that they allow for a parent child room and board situation, without it affecting you.  You will have to claim it.  Either way in the month that your child turns 18 you will no longer recive money for that dependant.  But it doesnt matter anyway, there will be changes to dependants and budget in July.

Talk to your worker before you make any decisions.  But I know exactly the confusion they try to throw at you.
