I've been doing some research on a particular issue I have and I found
a medication that will help me greatly.. Is there a place with a list
of meds that are not covered or a list of the meds that are? Or do I
have to call?

Thanks! :)

when my wifes one med was not covered by odsp I went to the pharmacy, they have a list and you may want to try that, also if you have a med thats not going to be covered ask you doctor if they can sign something called limited use form.  my wife need a med and wasent covered and her doctor signed that and it was ok'd by odsp

Yes, there is one such list of medication covered by the ODB:

Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/providers/program/drugs/edition_41.html

I have gone there myself to check on various medications.

There are two different programs that allow drugs to be covered that
might otherwise not be. Some drugs are available under limited use,
there's also the individual clinical review also known as a section 8.

When my doctor's efforts to get my Topamax covered under a section 8
failed, we looked into the drug company's compassionate usage program
and they sent out a 4 month supply to my doctor for free!
Unfortunately once there's a generic version available that cuts in to
their market share so they dropped the program, but that might be an
option for Sayge if you can't get the drug covered.

Also, one of my friends told me that she's heard of somebody getting
financial assistance from the Salvation Army for medications that
weren't covered. I'm going to try that if my worker refuses to
reimburse me under discretionary benefits, although I remember seeing
a policy directive that mentioned this being an appropriate use for
that money.

in 2010 my wife had to get a med for after her gastric bypass and it was needles and it was needed every day.  I had to give them to her;   It was $150 and was not covered.  2 weeks after surgery she had a blood clot and the doctor at emerg, put her on 2 weeks worth of the same needle.  she said do you have coverage? I said odsp and right away she said its not coverd but was if she said limited use.  it was covered and saved us over $500.00  then last year her doctor put her on a anxiety pill that has to be placed under the tongue.  you cant swallow it, it dissolves.  her pych was very angry that odsp even after her pych talked to them said its not coverd.  she needs that pill because a regular pill will go through her too fast because her stomach has been cut away and is a lot smaller.  so right now we are stuck paying for them,

she suffers from migraines  and needs something.  for a box of 6 or 10 its $125 and not covered our family doctor said to ask the pharmacy whats covered and the only thing covered is one to prevent them.  she takes so many meds now she she dosent want to take one more pill a day. is there anyone here who takes a migraine head ache pill thats covered by osap?  the ones that you buy off the shelf do not even come close to working

A friend of mine takes Topomax to prevent migraines and she has it covered under some sort of special consideration, not sure if it's limited use or Section 8.

I can relate Darren. Right now, the Dr has me on a trial of Atacand as a prophylactic
treatment. ( to prevent them, not a pain med ). I have only been on it for less than two
weeks, so I cannot say yet if it is going to work, as you must gradually increase to max dose.
Apparently this med is relatively new in treating this type of migraine, and it is covered as it turns out.
The problem with these types is that because they last so long, the potential for addiction is very high,
but even more so, rebound migraines can happen when using painkillers for such a length of time. I
know this is why they are reticent to address them with narcotics.

Darren.. I have a pain.. that starts in my left temple.. and grows,  encompassing my head. I've had it for 26 years now, 24/7.... I've taken every pill you can imagine and some I never heard of..  The docs called it a cluster head ache.  I had surgery on my left artery to take a piece out, checked for Arteritis.
Nothing has even taken the sting out so far, never mind the pain.
I hope your wife has a better time of it.  Maybe now there is a better way, for migraine
pain..

Uppity I spoke directly to somebody at the ministry recently and they
no longer cover it for migraine prevention at all. I remember talking
to the drug company a few years ago and back then it WAS covered under
section 8. I'm guessing your friend was approved years ago and got her
coverage grandfathered. I should have pursued this much sooner;
procrastination and losing track of time are very common amongst those
of us living with ADHD

Hi there:  Just wondered what the cause of her migranes are.  If that can be determined perhaps if it is sinus related or allergy related you could have here use dristan.  I suffer migranes as well.  Sometimes they are due to my sinus', other times it can be my food allergies.  I also have neck problems and jaw problems.  Perhaps exploring the cause of the migranes would be cheaper.  Just food for thought
