Has anyone heard or seen this news? It was about time they got fined.
I still keep getting those phone calls from Bell all the time.

That should include "DO NOT MAIL LIST" from Bell, too. I am still
getting anything in the mail from Bell - letters, pamphlets, etc to
get you back with Bell. I do wish the "DO NOT MAIL LIST" exists,
though.

A month ago, I had a young man at my door who was working for Bell or
something selling me the Internet, phone and cable package for half
price than to what I am paying from Rogers now. He said once I sign
up, I would be locked in for 2 years at the same price as they are
trying to get former Bell customers back. I asked him when the two
years are up, how much would it cost me for all 3 services? He
couldn't give me an answer. I told him I am locked in with Rogers til
next year. He thanked me and took off to someone's apt.

We had left bell last year and they had been calling.   most for a free cell but there was a 2 or 3 year contract.  i said no.  we got up to 25 calls a day for 3 months.  then we had enough and called bell and they put us on their do not call list and then we joined the national do not call list and we got a call 3 months later for a free cell phone.  I said no thanks but the guy who could not speak english too well would not stop.  I said stop!!!! we are not interested and he said why the hell do you not want a free phone?   he then swore because he wasent getting a sale.

We had the same sort of problem as you did Darren and I am so happy
that Bell finally caught it in the neck for the telemarketing. We
called the OPP about it prior to this fine being handed down and they
told us to record the dates and times they called. One more phone call
and we could sue them for harrassment. The cop we spoke to had the
same issue with them! We left Bell for good because of overcharges on
our bills, fees for services we didn't have etc. Life has been much
less stressful since we made that decision. We also put our number on
the national DO NOT CALL LIST and wondered why it was not working.

Yes they have been phoning me daily as well. Funny how after we heard how ma Bell was fined .. another call came from the same non english speaking fellow yesterday .. BUT .. he said he was calling courtesy of "solar" cell ?
I accused him of being with bell and he actually said yes .. but a new company had taken over.

Lorene, I have a question ... do you live in an apartment building?
If so, did you know that there is a law concerning soliciting in an
apartment building?
It states that you have to either be representing a charity or a
political organization in order to lawfully go door to door in an
apartment building. This means the Rogers and Bell people, even the
people who put flyers in your door as well as the Jehova's Witnesses
are breaking the law when they come to your door .... I wish by-law
officers would actually enforce this law, I hate it when people leave
stuff at my door or come un-anounced ... I find this irritating

i know how you feel, but seriously, up to 25 calls !!!!! That is sick.  i would have snapped. and being a former tele-sales professional - selling loans + mortgages over the phone paid my Univ tuition!!! And I recall , almost as is was yesterday* when society went to the toilet drains. It was about 1999 or so. Yes, we used to call and i would complete 2-3 loan / mortgage applications per night and people trusted people over the phone. then the scammers started taking advantage of the elderly, and mainstream public and ruined the industry for legit professionals

I just added a option that will block 12 ph#'s  - $3 /month with bell ... as we get 3-5 calls a day. and sadly i no longer trust anyone. Especially because if the caller ID says CIBC or Church of Scammers and Spammers is calling  - it can be anyone calling from their basement!!     A simple program for VOIP phones can be programmed to say anything you wish.  Sad.

Yes I live in high rise apt building. Yes, I know but however the
young man got his supertintendent's permission to go from door to
door. I learned this from another tenant who questioned to the
supertintendent's. I will not let anyone come to my apt. I just talk
to them at the door. I do have my cane handy in case they do something
funny. LOL. Actually no one is not allowed to use canes, bats, pipes,
etc to hit the person, even if it was self defence. That is what one
policeman told that to a elderly lady who use her can to hit another
tenant, who was getting fresh with her. That was a funny story she
told us later on. I know it is not funny to hear what happened, but
the way she described as to what happened was so funny.

It probably does stop Jehovah's Witnesses and Latter Day Saints from
entering the apt building, but they looked at the names on the front
lobby and write it down. They go home and call the tenants to solicit
over the phone. This one Jehovah's Witness lady told my mom how she
got my mom's name and where she lives by looking up the phone book and
call her. About 2 or 3 years ago, my mom was walking towards home when
a man who was walking up to her to talk to her. He was a Latter Day
Saint missionary man wanting to get her to join their church. When she
got home, she looked up in the phone book and made a complaint to the
Latter Day Saints church about that incident and how scary it was for
her to have a stranger approach her on the street.

I have had Jehovah's Witnesses stop me to talk to me on the streets or
parks. I would listen to what they are saying at first. I wait to they
shut up, so I can get a word in. Guess what I say to them, "As far as
I know you's killed my dad when he needed a blood transfusion." They
were shocked to hear that coming from my mouth and then they go "well
you know what the Bible says ...." I walked away without listening to
more. That story is true. My parents divorced. My dad remarried and
his second wife was Jehovah's Witness. He was involved in a car
accident with other people in the same car. Other people survived and
are okay today. But my dad didn't. He was given blood transfusion
before his wife showed up at the hospital. She demanded them to take
that off him. He never recovered and was in a vegetated coma. The
accident happened on Father's Day and his passing was on my birthday 4
and half years later. He never woke up at all. To this day, my
grandmother, my dad's mother, who is 97 and still has her own mind
intact, never forgave my stepmother after 21 long years.

I hate door to door people too. There is a site on Facebook or group
sorry, called Ignore the Door. Just ignore them. Same goes for
telemarketers. They will not make sales and they will go under. And
I am sick of getting flyers too (pizza, Chinese, and real estate
sales). If I want a pizza, I know where to order it from.

RE: Discussion on Door to Door salesman mentioned on the group.

Happy Holidays.....

I'll never forget this one when it comes to pushy door to door salesman,

Happy Holidays.

Vacuum cleaner salesman

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.

Good morning, said the young man. If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners.

Go away! said the old lady. I havent got any money and she proceeded to close the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open.

Dont be too hasty! he said. Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.

And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet.

If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.

Well, she said, I hope you have a damned good appetite, because the electricity was cut off this morning.

It's not the bell & rogers employees that puts them in your mailbox.
I'm in an apartment with those locked mailboxes and we get all kinds
of crap and it's Canada Post that delivers them.

I called Rogers to get them to stop sending them to me. They waste a
TON of paper doing it. They told me "WE CAN'T STOP SENDING YOU
MAIL". That blew my mind. They've grown so bloated that one end
can't even reach the other end to stop itself. They told me that I
had to write "return to sender" on 2 of their junkmails so they'd send
it back get a clue. I did. They never stopped.

I'm glad Bell's getting fined. I hope the precedent inspires both
companies to get their act together. Seriously, it scares me to think
what they would do if the government wasn't controlling them.

A local duct cleaning place called me once.

I said, in a calm way, pretending I was partially deaf and said...

"Why are you calling me? Isn't illegal to keep wild animals as
pets? What you should be doing is contacting our local parks dept.
if you are providing duck cleaning."

Haven't heard back from them....

Sometimes I will listen to them go on and on, pretending I'm
interested but when they ask me if I wanted it, I say no thanks, and
tell them you are wasting my time, so I am wasting yours.

I once asked the caller for their home number and when they asked why I said
so that I could call and disturb them when THEY were having supper! Did not
do anything to stop the calls but I felt better for awhile!
