Another friend of mine said that we receive our January ODSP money before Christmas, can anyone confirm this is true? Or is it just the last day of the month (Dec 31st) as usual?

Just wondering in terms of buying a gift for my nephew and budgeting.

Thanks,

Emily

LOL

Actually, ODSP pays at the beginning of the month because the cheque is always for the month up coming, not the month past.

Actually, ODSP pays at the end of the month, not the beginning, so the December cheque arrives early before Christmas and the January cheque at the end of January.

Chris, it is in advance for OW, but for ODSP it is in "arrears" at the
end of the month. jbkeh is right on this one. Here's a link:

Direct Deposit, snail mail, does not matter. We will ALL get our cheques by the 20th of Dec.
Both Direct Deposit, and or snail mail... does not make any difference. The Government of Ont.
has sent out a memo to all the payday loan places, saying that OW, and ODSP will be getting
paid by the 20th. I think your source is mistaken....

It seems because the ODSP offices close for almost 2 weeks, so who is
going to be there to send cheques out? That is why we get early
January ODSP deposit on the 29th of Dec. It doesn't matter if it is
direct deposit or cheques mailed to you.

Just curious, I probably can surmise the answer but ODSP workers are always
claiming they have too much work to hand , so how exactly takuiing two weeks
off help catch up on their backlog of work????
And sinc the government is claiming is broke and they must save money any
way they can, why doesnt Dalton tell ODSP workers that their 2 week hiatus
is WITHOUT pay???? Think of how much that would save?????

Bill

and as a further note I just looked up my bank statement from last December
and my direct deposit for both ODSP and CPP-D went in bank on the 21st of
December, I see no reason to believe this year will be any different

True, Bill. I have a relative who is a OW caseworker. She is off 2
weeks. She only gets paid on the holidays she gets off and not paid
for the regular days for not working. Like Dec 27 and 28 she will not
get paid. She said it is always like that every year since she started
working there for over 20 plus years. She said it is the same for
other OW caseworkers. I am not quite sure about ODSP and how they are
paid. Probably the same as the OW, I am guessing. She said they are
overworked and not enough staff to finish the backlog.

This is not a two week holiday for ODSP workers.

I've been in touch with ODSP workers during the two week period ending the year for
various reasons, files I have worked on.

I think this has more to do with the computer system managing the cheques/calculations,
and banking holidays/issues.

Angela, we too are able to contact any c/w whether it be ODSP or OW for that matter during that time frame –

probably if they are anything like me, the ONLY time to get caught up on their case notes; and the cheques are all automated.

Cheers

http://www.mcss.gov.on.ca/en/mcss/programs/social/odsp/index.aspx  - on the right hand side of the page, near the top, there's info in a black outlined box on cheque dates. It confirms December 20th as our next cheque date.

So the Ontario govt. treats its OW and ODSP workers only marginally better than OW/ODSP recipients!  No $10,000 a day like their consultant buddies get, no $millions$ in bonuses for their (utterly incompetent) executive/administrator buddies for merely doing the job they are supposed to(or not even doing the job!)...LOL

We are actually all in this together - working wage slave tax payers, the disabled, and the unemployed, but the 1% would rather have us fighting each other - divide and conquer the slave classes!  Keep us at each other's throats so we are distracted and leave the real culprits in peace.  We will never improve our lot if we stay divided and in-fighting over the scraps we are thrown.  The differences between us are an illusion!  We are all in the same boat, just in slightly different sections.

Actually, check the ODSP web site, the date is January 20th for auto deposits. The cheques should come a  few days earlier.

regardless of when the cheques come in, i personally will be paying my rent early December, otherwise by the time January first comes, there is a chance i would be short. Like most people, disabled or not, i tend to spend too much at Christmas.
