I sent in a request for Discretionary benefits, I was called back today
and told that all they provide is $100 for a dresser, a voucher for a
crib (their supplier), and a $25 giftcard from Shoppers. I am confused,
I must have read wronge or been misinformed.

of a child)
. The allowance can include $100.00 for the purchase of items such as
clothing
for the baby and $260.00 for the purchase of a crib (If you are an ODSP
recipient
you need to have your case worker request this allowance through the
Toronto Social Services Client Special Services)

the purchase of

portion of the
Newborn Child Allowance to purchase a new crib.

purchase of the
items or the purchase of the crib.
I was also told that i could not get funds until baby was added to the
benefit unit. I really don't understand. When I first called to find
out how to apply in the first place I was told to go and get prices for
a crib and dresser. Why bother if they are not going to give assistance
for it? Could someone please let me know if I am just reading wronge or
am I getting the runaround?
Thanx

It seems like you got what was in the legislation, didn't you? (Or will
be getting, once the baby is on the benefit unit.) $100 for purchase of
clothes and whatnot and a voucher for a crib. Granted, $100 is not
nearly enough for all the things you'll need, but that's all the
legislation says you'll get. The voucher covers the cost of the whole
crib, am I correct? When I was on OW, after our son was born we had to
wait until he was on the benefit unit before we could get anything.
