Hello!

My 9 year old daughter broke her arm and today she had it cast in a
plaster cast. Next week I'm taking her to the hospital's fracture
clinic and they want to put a fibreglass cast on her as the plaster
one is very heavy. Does anyone know whether ODSP will pay for the
fibreglass cast? If not, does anybody have any idea how much one
would cost?

Thank you so much for your help,

Cara

OHIP should cover the cost. It's a legit hospital expense.

Take care,
Frank.

cara, in my personal experience only, odsp does not pay for anything.
i paid $70.00 for a fibreglass cast for my daughter two years ago in
toronto. the only good thing was it is considered a medical expense.
again, in my personal experience only.

Again I must repeat this, ODSP will do it's best to avoid paying for
much of the extra benefits we are entitled to. There may be a need to
push to the SBT but ALL casts prescribed by a doctor in Ontario must
be covered either by OHIP, OW or ODSP. If OHIP does not cover the
cast then make an application to your local OW office for
discrecionary benefits coverage for the cast (if they cover it they
most likely only will cover 50%) and then submit a MSN benefits form
for the balance. Details on the MSN Benefits form can be found on the
Pages section of the group's web space on Google.

Thanks everybody for your help.  I'm hoping the cost for the cast will only be around $35.  When we were in 2 days ago the nurses made it sound like it was going to be a lot of money though.  I'm still waiting for my worker to call me back to give me more info but its no surprise that she hasn't returned my call even though I called early Wednesday afternoon.  I will also call the hospital to see if they can give me any information.

Thanks again!
