I saw a post on here a while back about a place in southern Ontario that would spay/neuter a cat for people receiving ODSP (with referral) for around $25, does anyone know of a resource in Ottawa for low cost spay/neuter and/or vet care for people receiving ODSP?

Looking specifically for information related to dogs, but anything would be useful.

I do know of the spay neuter clinic run by the city if Ottawa but it wanted around $250 to neuter a 20-25lb dog :(

Hope someone is more informed than me!

Thanks,
Em

unfortunately, a dog spay/neuter is by weight of the animal unlike a cat which is a set fee because there rarely is a need for a lot of sedation meds.  if you call around in ottawa you'll soon find just how cheap the clinic is.

your dog will also have to have had all their necessary vaccinations including rabies for any vet care in ontario.  at the clinic you can sign a waiver that if your animal contracts any disease etc that you will not seek compensation.  i do NOT believe in vaccinating indoor animals so this was a help to me when i had to get my cats done.  [i am an apartment dweller, there is no risk of my cats getting something, or even of a bird or bat getting into my apartment as i have never had a balcony yet]

Thanks for the responses!

Shelley- That's the place I was thinking of, thanks!

Star- Yes I know, I have gotten quotes from my vet for neutering, it's so disheartening. Thanks for the explanation for the set fee for cats vs weight related fees for dogs, didn't realize that!

not in ottawa.  the humane society has a privately owned vet clinic now.

your most welcome em.  i felt uncomfortable signing the waiver but having to vaccinate pets against a whole wack of unnecessary stuff just doesn't sit well with me.  dogs on the other hand, yes, need a few vaccinations because they go outside regularly.  its a catch 22.

Hi from Ottawa:

This isn't exactly what you are requesting, but it's important to
pass on knowledge of this program for pets of the "marginally
housed". Dr. Michelle Lim is the wife of my vet and started a clinic
in 2003 to give veterinary care to pets of the homeless, street youth
and the Ottawa Mission. Their clientele has expanded through referrals
from social agencies and mental health organizations. They have mobile
clinics but also one on the Algonquin campus which trains vet techs to
provide pet care and education to the program's clients.

See: vetoutreach.org.

Cheers,
Val

Does anyone know of any cheap vet services near/in the Etobicoke area?
I need to have my lil female cat spayed.

Thanks!

Thanks Shelly. I shall look into that.

I also found  the Toronto Animal Services. 2696 Eglinton West. 416 338 6281. They charge $94.10.

However,

One first has to prove (by faxing proof 416 338 6282) that your cat has had its 'rabies' and its '5 in 1' shots.
