On the old Fireside Group there was a thread about discounts for ODSP
recipients who wished to use the services of the Ontario Provincial
Parks. The post went on to say that there was a 50% discount for
disabled Ontarians. Maggie and I were looking over the Parks site last
night hoping that we may be able to take advantage of the offer as a
way to get a break from the apartment for a couple of days. While I
was studing the rates I found the exact wording for the discount.

Ontario Seniors and Ontario Residents with Disabilities
Provincial parks offer discounts on dayuse and camping fees to Ontario
residents over the age of 65 and to Ontario residents with a disability
who have a CNIB identity card or a Ministry of Transportation disabled
persons parking permit.

Please note the two conditions for discounts:
1) CNIB Identity Card
2) Ministry of Transportation disabled persons parking permit

And the discount rate in 2005 for either day use, camping or a Season
Pass is 50% of the standard fee charged by the park. These passes may
be purchased at the park gates or online at Parks Ontario web site or
by mail.

Hi there. I posted it in one of the threads in the old odsp board.
Thanks for reminding everyone about this. Donna (peeebbbles)

I fully agree that this discount is discriminatory and does eliminate a
large number of Ontarians who really need the services provided and the
discount. That is one of the reasons I took the time to post the
restricitons, I did not want an ODSP recipient who was not fortunate
(really unfortunate) enought to have the right to a Disabled Parking
Permit showing up at a park expecting the discount.

A number of polite letters addressed to the Minister who overlooks the
Parks Service inquiring about why the rest of the disabled community
cannot participate in the discount offering may help to change the
policy.
