On July 11 Michael Bird posted a link to a publication of the Ontario College of Denturists about dentures and ODSP recipients.  Some members are not using Adobe Reader or did not wish to download the entire magazine issue to read the article so I have received permission from the College to re-print the article on the Activism website in HTML format.

To access the article visit:
http://home.cogeco.ca/~mmdilts/Dentures_DoO.htm

The article contains information on what dentures are available and the pricing schedules.

Thank you Michael

I just this minute returned from the dentist/denturist.
I've been battling periodontal disease for 40 years...it's a loosing
battle...I have many missing teeth and loose teeth and I need dentures
or partials.
I do not want my teeth pulled out one at a time, or completely, until
I know I have coverage for false ones.
I listened while the dental assistant spoke to Great-West Life, the
dental insurance provider for O.D.S.P.
She was transferred three times. Finally she was told that they
needed to know if I came on O.D.S.P. by referral from an employer or if
I applied as an individual, because they only provide complete coverage
for the previously employed.
I couldn't answer the question, as I've been in receipt of social
assistance, by recommendation of government employees who have simply
handed me forms to file my entire adult life, and all the work I've
ever done has been part-time contracts with no benefits, government
funded make work projects.
It has always, and still is, my hope to be employed but I'll tell you,
in retrospect, I really believe it has been the intention of all those
so called agents of the crown, who have recommended, instructed, and
coearced me to sign documents so I can receive income support,
vocational rehabilition and employment support that I be kept out of
the work force...because I'm" mentally ill", a whistle blowing
clarivoyant that's sick and tired of putting up with crap!

I feel like saying !*%!^ them all, but I know you couldn't post that
word.

This society would have been a better place, kinder, more beautiful
and enjoyable if I could have been a part of it.

I'm taking my kids and going to jump in a lake.
Hope we don't get e-coli poisening.

Keep it cool.
Cheers, Brenda

correct me if I am wrong but is this saying that dentures (partials) WILL be covered? How do I go about starting the process.

I talked to the Region today. You have to start the process by calling
someone in the region and get a estimate for what you need. Then the
region will ok[or not] the work to get done.

I am in the process of having my dentures made in Oshawa (Durham
Region.) This is how I did it:

- made an appt with the Denturist my Dentist recommended
- at the first appt Denturist asked me questions and filled out the
forms
- when I left they told me that THEY sent in all the paper work for
approval NOT me
- Denturist office told me to contact my worker to see if they needed
any other info/told I would be asked to submit 3 months worth of
current banking
- I copied my bank info off of the Internet (online banking) then sent
in the papers to my worker
- about two months later the Denturist called me to say they had just
received a voucher for me/that I was approved and we booked the next
appt
- I have had about 5 appts now for fittings etc and my next appt in
August I will get my new teeth

The entire process went very smoothly with no hitches and I cant wait
to eat properly again! Good luck everybody!
