Anyone know who we contact for huuuge mistakes on our T5007 ODSP
slips ?

They seem to have claimed I made far less money from ODSP than I
actually did.

H and R Block ? ODSP ? Canada Revenue Agency ?

It might have something to do with the CPP slip I received, which gave
claimed way too much money, like all the retroactive payments going
back to October 2007.

None of it seems to make sense to me. I haven't kept all my ODSP
cheque stubs and CPP-D approval letter from 2009.

What do people suggest ?

Anyone else have this problem ?

It says near the bottom, "If you have any questions about the amount of
benefits shown on this slip, contact your social service agency."
For me, the address is in the top left corner, that being the local ODSP
office. Since that seems to be the only obvious lead, perhaps you should
check with them first.
If they have any other ideas they should let you know.

I thought mine was wrong last year and I called them just to make sure
it was right. They called me back in three days and said it WAS
right. Call ODSP. They generate the slips.

I checked my ODSP slips against the amount shown on my T5 minus the
MSN diabetic supplies. It comes out right to the last cent.

There's definately something wrong with the taxation reporting and
refund system.
I should be getting a transitional child benefit and I'm not. What a
runaround.
ODSP says it's up to the feds so contact them, they say it's up to
the provincial OCB.
OCB (Ontario Child Benefit) doesn't seem to have an office or phone or
contact.
I went into the revenue canada office and the lady had never heard of
OCB or transitional benefits.
She took my s.i.n. and looked up in the system and it says I received
a different amount from odsp then my last Tform reported, and implied
that I lied when I filed my taxes. I guess my reaction assured her I
didn't and she looked again into the system and informed me that it
was being updated (as in changed) monthly...next month I get a cheque
in the mail for arrears, and another direct deposit from cctb for
about 5 dollars, no explaination as to the source of this income or
the reason for receiving it. It still doesn't add up. What a
convoluted mess.

A few years ago I received a letter from rev.can. asking me to verify
that'd I'd given H&R Block the right to have access to my revenue
canada taxfiles for the rest of life. I most certainly hadn't. There
was a clitch in H&R's default system.
I had to file a form 13.

What is form 13, Brenda?

I got the form 13 from H&R block. It was a declaration statment that I
hadn't given them the right to access my taxfile with revenue canada
for the rest of life, but only for that particular year.
funny thing too...I'd received the rev.can.blue form and it seemed
quite normal, then a few days later I got another letter from Rev.Can,
the one asking me to verify I'd given H&R block lifetime rights to
access my account, and it really caught my attention as the envelope
was put through the postal meter backasswards...usually when you turn
a letter over the flap is on the top...this flap was on the bottom.
The lady that had done my taxes for me was a former psychiatric nurse
from St. Thomas Psychiatric Hopsital.
She was very nice, helpful and informative.
We found in H&R's sytem the form she'd initially filed out on the
computer for me, and there was a choice, either A, the default, giving
lifetime rights, or B, just for this year. I chosen B and she'd
checked it. Then we found the copy of the fax and the default hadn't
been removed, both boxes were checked off.

I usually do my own taxes but that year the software I'd downloaded
from the gov't secured site was driving me stark raving mad. It just
wouldn't give me a total and let me complete and send my return. It
kept telling me to return to page such and such and report my legal
expenses...like I've got money for a lawyer, not that I didn't need
one that year.
It was a terribly aweful horribly bad year.

and one other queer (odd, peculiar, suspicious) thing. Form thirteen?
These folks would know I'm from a cultural background that's likely
to be surperstitious about the number 13.

LOL, that is funny. No 13 is a superstitious number for some people.
Doesn't bother me at all. I am thanking my lucky stars I was not born
on the 13th on my birthday, but however my husband passed away on the
13th of March, almost 9 years ago.

I was at H&R Block to file my income tax this morning. It was just a
basic return and it was free after all the trouble I went thru last
year that they apologize and gave me a letter saying to come back next
year to do my income tax free of charge. When it comes to paying the
bill, they printed the receipt. For a basic 2009 tax return, the price
is $82 plus. That is highway robbery for a basic tax return. Thank god
I didnt' have to pay nothing. Oh my gosh. That is terrible. I will not
come back next year. I will either file it myself or Netfile or
whatever.

H&R Block even asked me if I got my rent receipt from the Landlord. I
said no and I was never ever asked for that for over 25 years. She had
me sign the paper to say they can get permission from my Landlord to
get the rent receipt in case they are problems with Revenue Canada and
H&R later on. Yeah, right.

When I receive any correspondence from Canada Revenue, GST return or

be an accident - maybe it is trying to tell us something.... ;-)

Get an estimate from your favourite optician. Submit it to ODSP. They used
to process it on the spot. Now they take their own sweet time.
When they have it for you, take it back to the optician. and you'll get your
glasses - up to a certain amount and then you have to pay any extra.

I just got mine recently - eye exams once every two years and glasses every three.  If the glasses are really trashed legitimately, they will okay new ones with the eye exam.  There are several decent frames that are odsp approved and won't cost you extra.  Submit the estimate as Duff said.  In my case, I had a quick response so hope you do too.  Mine are attractive if not top of the line so I am quite happy with them.

My question for others is what to do if they get chipped or broken - my husband's are cracking like a windshield daily after he took a fall and they aren't very old.  Is there any remedy with odsp for this?  I love this group because we share answers without having to raise any eyebrows at odsp.  Tks - Lynx

Except for those have diabetes, they are allowed to get eye exams once
a year. If your eyesight changes from the last visit, you are allowed
to get another pair of eyeglasses. It is up to ODSP whether they pay
for the lenses only and use the same frames you are wearing, or they
may allowed you to get a new pair with lenses and frames. My eyesight
changes every year.

Yes, there is nothing that can be done about it at all. Believe me,
I've tried to get rid of their ads when using Yahoo or MSN Hotmail!!
It's automatically put on there when you use their email accounts.

I've been using Gmail now for a few years and much prefer it. There
isn't any of that stuff on Gmail, except for the random quotes I
deliberately set to be added for each email....but no ads and not any
where near the junk mail I get with Yahoo or Hotmail.

So, I bought a secondhand refurbished hard drive at the Computer
Liquidators last fall to replace the old hard drive because it was so
slow. This one has more memory and more speed. Of course I paid more
money for it but I had save a bit from my part time job for that
reason. At least I can login in faster when I start using Internet
within 15 seconds. The old one hard drive took about 2-5 minutes to
start the Internet. I am not kidding. I can't afford to pay for a
brand new one, despite the prices on computers are dropping all the
time. I am happy with it. It has Windows XP Pro. I never asked for
that. It was already installed. It didn't have no Microsoft Word
Document which I used all the time whenever I want to type, or use
Excel for anything. I don't use it all the time, though. A friend
burned a copy of Microsoft Word Document Office Suite for me for my
old hard drive. I was able to use it again with the newer hard drive
with no problems. My old hard drive didn't have IE. There was not
Internet installed. Fortunately a techician had a Firefox disk. He
installed it for me free of charge. I was able to use it. I love
Mozilla Firefox better. I don't have to login in all the time putting
in so many names/passwords, etc. It is automatically saved once you
login in one time and then the message clicks in saying you want the
computer to remember the password the next time you it. The new hard
drive had IE. I hate that program because it is so slow using it. I
never use it anyways. I download Firefox and have been using it ever
since.

By the way, don;t they every use Netscape? What happened to it? I
seemed to remember using Netscape many years ago.

Iduff Gwinnutt,

It really doesnt' matter how many hours you can work while on ODSP.
You can work as little as 6 or 8 or 100 hours per month. It is
whatever how much you make is what they take 50% off your cheque. If
you make too much money, like more money you make than your monthly
ODSP cheque while on ODSP, they may suspend your benefits. I am not
too clear on that, as that has not happened to me. Don't forget you
will get an extra $100 working benefit included in your ODSP
statement. That helped a lot. I really do miss it since I haven't been
working for the last few months.

I only worked something like between 6 to 13 hours per month for
almost 2 years til I was let go Nov 4 of last year. I don't know why
they hire me in the first place when there were not that busy, but I
supposed they can claim me as an office expense or whatever you call
it or something in their income taxes. I never had any deductions
taken off my paycheque because I was a causal worker.

As a long time "Bob" Dobbs fan I'm interested in his inspired oprating
system, Slackware.
Some time ago my DVD burner died leaving me with very little. I just bought
a new DVD burner - the joker who bought it before me returned it so it was
half price. But it works.
The ditzy clerk still tried to charge me full price until I demanded that
she give it to me at the lowest sticker price. She did - but not without
hassle. Sheesh! and *I* am the one who is
out of work. Go figure. So I'm reviving old files that have sat dormant on
old DVDs for a while then I plan on backing up what I can and going Linux.
Yes I'm aware of Ubuntu and the guy
who founded Canonical is a zillionaire and gives away the CDs/DVDs for free
(yes I have one or more) but I'm not as young as I used to be and have to
take steps even slower than I did before.

Keygen? Opera's been completely free for several years, man. Firefox is pretty stable, just don't go crazy with too many extensions, that's how most people mess up their Firefox profiles in the first place.

That's what I use now. Ubuntu gave me a comfortable environment for learning the basics of Linux, but eventually I had to take off the training wheels. Yeah, Slack is awesome :).
