Recently I asked ODSP to add my son back to my benefits during summer
school holidays. I have been in a living hell since, because of the
amount of documents I have to provide, dating back to 2008. So far I
have faxed over 30 pages of paper work and the worker keeps saying she
is missing documents. Even though I have confirmations that the office
got them.
The ODSP officers are very insensitive when it comes to dealing with
clients. They treat us like thieves or something. With my benefits
suspended since August life has become a nightmare and it doesn't look
like this woman is backing down soon. Today my bank told me she called
them to request for statements dating back to 2001. When she was
asking me to sign the consent forms she said she wanted statements for
2 months. Now I have to pay over $150 for the statements. So who is
supposed to meet this cost.
Does anyone know what is acceptable or do we at least have any rights
as ODSP recipients. My utilities will be disconnected end of month and
they will not extend due dates anymore. Anyone has any ideas on how I
can get over this.

You could try emailing and explaining your dire siduation to each the following addresses...

richard....@ontario.ca          (He's the director of ODSP)

I sincerely hope one (if not all) of these can help you.

Pick up the phone and call ODSP and a MP now. If you cannot pay your
utilities, this is dire. ODSP will then have to pay to have them
reconnected.

She is required to pay for the costs

But they will deny this.

She is powertripping it is clear

People on ODSP have no rights - according to the agreement s we have to sign
- loosely worded as much as necessary - I guess the question is what is she
after - she is not legally allowed to go on a witchhunt looking for
stuff...she has to state what she needs and why and request it from
you...first...

I would go over her head at this point and rais the t questions

You should get legal representation - I do not know how this works - but you
need an advocate to get their attention

If you are suffering undue financial hardship - the director should be
involved and you should state that plainly in a letter to the director as
well as your concern for the treatment you are recieing - if you have a
common sense issue that is reasonably solved by common sense then this undue
hardship and excessive investigation is unnecessary...she should be
stopped..

I would be camped at the odsp office and not leaving until it was sorted out
and I would be absolutely irate

As long as you are complying with her requests and you can show that she has
no reason to discontinue syour support until she can prove otherwise with
evidence ...and if she discontinued your support you should contest the
decision in writing immediately

Yes you can get Interim Assistance as well. But do you have to pay it
back? That wouldn't be fair...

I would camp out at the office too. Good suggestion.
